Patricia lost 54 pounds. She had a breakthrough after she saw a photo her sister took of her at 332 lbs. By working with a virtual fitness coach and committing to healthier eating habits, she has transformed her lifestyle.
What was your motivation?
I got tired of being tired. I saw a picture of myself (at 332 lbs) that my sister took, and I had a breakthrough at that moment. The Black Women Losing Weight transformation stories on Facebook also motivated me to get healthy in 2020.
What inspired you when you wanted to give up?
My family and friends encouraged me to keep going! My favorite fitness/health apps are Fitbit, Weight Watchers, and Pacer.
When did you start your journey?
I started on May 1, 2020.
How did you change your eating habits?
I changed my eating habits by preparing my meals and snacks each night. I made a choice not to indulge in any food or drink that does not bring nutrients to the body.
What foods did you stop or start eating?
I started eating squash, bok choy, and kale. I stopped eating fast food and chicken from the gas station. I also said no to sugar, which was the hardest thing I ever had to do.
What did your workout routine look like?
I meet with a virtual fitness trainer three times a week (Coach Amy). On two of the other days, I hike 10 miles, and I take two rest days.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 332 pounds, and my current weight is 278 pounds. Nope, it was not easy! It takes discipline and commitment.
What is your height?
5’7″
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No, I didn’t have weight loss surgery.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
Stay on course in the healthy race, always make healthy choices, and stay active.
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
You can start now. No matter your weight, you can make a shift to reach your health goals. You are valuable, and you can do it. You have the power to change your life today. Even during the current pandemic, you can lose weight and motivate others to be active.
