What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
I conceived my daughter at 17, and I weighed 360 pounds. My doctor explained to me the risks of being pregnant and so overweight. I knew I had to make a change. Not only for myself but my daughter as well. I knew I needed to make a change for future generations.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I began my journey at 17 when I found out I was pregnant. I actually lost about 15 pounds during my pregnancy. I delivered a healthy 8-pound, 10 oz baby.
Over the next year, I went from 360 down to about 310. I plateaued for a while, not putting any effort into my journey. Once I hit 25 years old, I began my journey again, going from about 290-300 down to 185 in 5 years. Now at 32, I maintain my size. I am still working to build muscle.
How did you change your eating habits?
I had no knowledge of how to lose weight. So the first thing I did was cut out soda. I also began baking instead of frying my food and told myself to “eat the rainbow” when I’d fix a meal. Once I obtained that, I slowly began incorporating intermittent fasting.
What is your workout routine?
I began at my heaviest, only walking outside 1-2 miles until I worked up the confidence to get a gym membership. After that, I slowly began incorporating light weights, increasing as time progressed.
How often did you work out?
I started by working out 2-3 days a week. Now I work out about five days a week.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
I’ve gone from 360 pounds to 185 pounds.
What is your height?
5’10”
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No, I lost it naturally.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
Never give up on yourself. And don’t compare your journey to anyone else’s
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
Learn your body and what works for you. Don’t look at the big picture because it can get overwhelming. Small steps lead to big results!
