Update: Nyarai sent an updated before and after. She’s kept 61 pounds off with a low carb eating regime, cardio and weight training.
“I started my weight loss journey in 2013 after being fed up with my weight. I had always been a big/fat girl. I started at 198 pounds and now I weigh 137 pounds [weight loss maintained since Sept 2016]. What keeps me motivated is definitely progress pictures and the fact that I’m much happier and healthier. I wouldn’t want to go back to the bad space I was in before. My advice for people who want to lose weight is to definitely take it one day at a time and that way you won’t be overwhelmed by how far you still have to go. Focus on the 24 hours ahead of you instead of the months ahead.” – @thickfitwith_nyaraicarol
Transformation of the Day: Nyarai lost 61 pounds. She is a 23 year old college student. After a warning from her doctor and years of being fed up with her weight, she decided to take action. It’s taken her 2 years to lose the weight and she’s been successful this time because she wasn’t in a rush to get results.
I’m a 23 year old university student who got fed up of being overweight and decided to take control of her life. I’ve currently lost over 60 pounds and I absolutely love this journey that I’m on. When I started my journey I weighed 198 pounds and now I weigh 137 pounds. My height is 5’5″. This journey has taken me about two years and the reason it worked for me was because I was patient and was not rushing to see results, like all the other times I had tried and failed.
My story is that I’ve always been overweight my whole life, ever since I was a child, because of my love of sweet things. In high school, my weight got worse because I simply was not taking care of myself. I was unhappy and going on diet after diet that didn’t work for me. I finally came to college and decided that enough was enough after being told by a doctor that I had the risk of getting diabetes. I decided to consult a dietician and start working out.
My diet now consists of a lot of protein and vegetables. I have cut out sugary foods and high carb foods, such as pasta, white bread and white rice. I’ve also learned all about portion control, which has helped me a lot.
I exercise 6 days a week for an hour. On three of those days I do strength training and focus on toning my body. I’m doing lunges, squats, exercises that tone my arms and stomach exercises. On the other three days, I do cardio. I either run on the treadmill, go to a bootcamp class or do a spin class. (It’s usually spin classes).
My advice for other women trying to lose weight is to first love their bodies so they are not treating their bodies harshly. Secondly, I would say that patience is required. Results do not come overnight, but when they do the blood and sweat and tears will all be worth it. My favorite quote which sums up everything is “Fall in love with the process and the results will take care of themselves.” I’m the healthiest and happiest I have ever been in my life.
