Transformation of the Day: Nneoma lost 114 pounds. Our sister from Lagos, Nigeria started her journey when health issues, including high blood pressure, began to affect her life. Partnering with her sister, she found healthy alternatives for her favorite foods and worked out regularly at the gym. Check out her story.
I was always the confident ‘big girl with a pretty face.’ I never saw the need to lose weight until it started affecting my health (High BloodPressure). I started my journey by reducing my portions and finding healthier substitutes for my favorite meals. I also began working out regularly, and I haven’t looked back since.
I started at 130kg (286.6lbs), and I’ve managed to drop to 78kg (171.9lbs), so I have lost a total of 52kg (114 pounds).
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
My greatest motivation was my sister, we embarked on the weight loss journey together, and she’s lost over 35kg. She was and is still my number one support system and accountability partner.
There were so many times I wanted to give up, but I remembered my parents and loved ones who were always worried about my health. I knew it was unfair of me to put them through that, especially since it was within my control. I also drew inspiration from fitness pages online. I followed a lot of them and got inspired daily from reading stories and seeing transformations.
How did you change your eating habits?
I’ve had to learn, unlearn and relearn on this journey. Some of my favorite substitutes are switching Ice Cream for Greek Yogurt, White Rice for Bulgur Wheat and Deep Fried Chicken for Grilled/Air Fried Chicken.
Tell us about your workout routine.
I exercised minimally when I first started my journey. My primary focus was nailing my diet, which I was able to achieve. I enrolled at the gym a few months after that and worked out on weekends. I did lots of cardio and joined all the aerobics classes. I’ve grown from that routine to working out five times a week. Now, I do all sorts of cardio, strength training, weight lifting and a little bit of yoga. Fitness has become a part of me, and there’s no going back.
What is your height?
I’m about 5’6.
When did you start your journey and how long did your transformation take?
I started my journey three years ago, and my major transformation started showing in less than a year.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
This journey requires a lot of discipline, dedication, patience, and consistency. Once you embrace those, you will achieve the goals you desire. This journey will push you and stretch you beyond limits, but giving up is not an option
What advice would you like to share?
My advice to those who want to lose weight is for them to just go for it. Stop waiting for the perfect time and start now. Also, I suggest doing a lot of research. It’s not a ‘one size fits all’ process, and it’s important to do what works for you. Lastly, it’s okay to seek help if you need it. There are so many weight loss coaches who can guide you through your journey.
