Transformation of the Day: Nikki lost 92 pounds. She promised herself that she would lose 40 pounds by her 40th Birthday. She reached that goal and kept going. Adopting the ketogenic lifestyle and being more active worked for her.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
The motivation for me to begin my weight loss journey was turning 40! I have started and stopped so many times. I gained weight, and I lost weight, but I finally got tired of the seesaw. I began six months before my 40th Birthday, and I made a deal with myself. I told myself if I could lose 40 pounds by my 40th Birthday, I would maintain it this time around. I met that goal.
Inspiration came from an encouraging friend of the family who had success with the ketogenic lifestyle. Also, I was inspired by looking in the mirror and seeing good progress. My body aches (back & knees) felt so much better. My mental status became less heavy and more light.
How did I change my eating habits?
I began my journey with a ketogenic/low-carb eating plan. I cut out most carbs, especially those from sugar, starch, and flour. I consumed 20 net carbs or less per day. I ate proteins, which included fish, turkey, beef, and chicken. I also ate more green, leafy vegetables and cooked with good fats like olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, and grass-fed butter.
I also cut out all sodas and juices. I only drink water and consuming up to 80 ounces daily. I began intermittent fasting as a way to help me become successful. I fast on a 16:8 regimen. This means I don’t eat after 8 pm, and I begin eating after 12 pm.
What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you work out?
My workout routine mainly consisted of just moving my body more. I would walk 3 miles, three times a week. I would also make subtle changes like parking in the very back of a parking lot and walking up to the shopping center to get my exercise. If there were steps, I would take them instead of the elevator.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
Starting weight: 280 pounds
Currently weight: 188 pounds
What is your height?
My height is 5’2″.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I began my journey in March 2019. It has taken me two years to get to my current weight.
What is the biggest lesson you have learned so far?
The biggest lesson that I have learned is that I am capable of doing all things through Christ. I’ve learned to keep persevering. No matter what happens in life, you have to keep trying to make it happen without giving up. I also am learning to trust the process. It works if you change your mindset and are ready to actually change your life for the better. You have to be READY mentally and spiritually.
