Transformation of the Day: Nerissa lost 126 pounds. In the beginning, her motivation was just a desire to be a healthy and more active mom. She had VSG surgery in 2019, transformed her lifestyle, had a baby in 2021, and still maintained her results. Now, she is on a mission to inspire women to live their best lives.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
My inspiration was getting healthier and more active for my children. Now my motivation is to be my best me and help other women do the same!
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
I had Gastric Sleeve surgery (VSG) in July 2019 with zero regrets.
How did you change your eating habits?
I eat small portions that are high in protein and low carb. This is characteristic of someone who has had gastric sleeve surgery.
What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you work out?
I walk 3-5 miles a day or do a 30-minute Peloton ride along with resistance exercises.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 274 pounds, and my current weight is 148 pounds.
What is your height?
I’m 5’5″.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I began my journey in July 2019 and reached my lowest weight in January 2021. I also I found out I was pregnant in January 2021. I birthed my son in July and dropped back down to my lowest weight weeks after.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
Don’t be discouraged by plateaus because your body is still working and losing weight as long as you are putting in the work. Be patient, give it time, and check yourself if need be (I.e., not drinking enough water, over-snacking, not being active, etc.)
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
Take the first step. Take action. See an expert such as your doctor, nutritionist, and trainer. It’s okay not to be able to do this alone. I’m also an advocate of weight loss surgery when applicable.
