Transformation of the Day: Nathia lost 43 pounds with healthy eating habits and lots of exercise. After having children, she gained a lot of weight. She felt tired and disappointed in herself. With the husband and her children as her biggest supporters, she focused on her health and adopted a new lifestyle.
When I started my weight loss journey a year ago, I weighed 210 pounds. One year later, I currently weigh 167 pounds. I decided that I wanted to lose weight because of my health and because I wanted to be toned.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going when you wanted to give up?
After having my children, I noticed that I gained a lot of weight. I kept telling myself I was going to do something about it, but I kept putting it off. Before I knew it, I went from 140 pounds to 210 pounds. I felt tired and disappointed in myself.
One day my husband told me, “Baby, you are beautiful either way, but if you want to lose weight for yourself, you can do it.” My husband and my children really motivated me. They would work out with me and help push me. Seeing how proud they are of me helped motivate me when I just wanted to quit.
How did you change your eating habits?
Changing my eating habits played a big part in my transformation. I stayed away from fried foods. If I did eat something fried, it would be maybe three times a month, and it would generally be seafood. I stayed away from sweets, pasta, bread, and sugary drinks. Don’t get me wrong, my beautiful queens, we can cheat sometimes but we can’t over indulge. Sometimes we have to compromise. If I had the urge to eat something sweet, I might eat a fruit parfait, granola bar, or some yogurt. I also made sure that I drank plenty of water daily.
What did your workout routine consist of?
Exercising was also an important factor. I would do 2-4 miles running and walking in the morning before work. Then, I would do two miles on the treadmill after work. I also used the Elliptical and bicycle. I tried to make sure I did this routine 4-5 days a week.
There were times when I was at home, and I didn’t feel like getting out, or maybe I couldn’t get out. On those days, I worked out with YouTube exercise videos (thirty-minute abs and core workouts).
At first, my weight loss journey was hard, but with determination and by telling myself that “Failure isn’t an option.”, it has gotten much easier, Ladies. Once you make exercising apart of your daily plan, it comes naturally. It’s like your body starts feeling the need to work out.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
Surround yourself with positive people who will push you. Anytime you get discouraged, read another beautiful QUEEN’s weight loss story and know you can and will do it.
I still workout in the morning and at night at least four days a week for 45 minutes. It’s important to continue to watch what you eat and keep exercising, even if it’s just running or walking for at least 45 minutes a day.
I’m sharing my story because I love empowering other women. I want you all to know that you CAN DO IT! Stay encouraged, Ladies. Thank you for reading my story.
