Transformation of the Day: Nana lost 64 pounds with healthy eating habits and lots of exercise. At 25 years old, she was experiencing knee pain and migraines. Her confidence was also at an all-time low. In April of this year, she decided to turn her life around, physically and mentally. Check out her story.
Starting weight: 253 pounds
Current weight: 189 pounds
Goal weight: 170 pounds
Height: 5โ11โ
I decided to take charge of my life in April 2019. I reached my heaviest weight at 253 pounds. I was extremely unhappy with myself, and my confidence was at its lowest point. At only 25 years old, I was already experiencing physical pain, such as knee pain and constant migraines. I knew it was time to change my life.
I embarked on my weight loss journey, and this has been one of the most challenging and most rewarding moments of my life. I wouldnโt change a single thing. I have grown and learned so much. From April to December 2019, I have lost 64 pounds. Although Iโm not quite where I want to be, I must acknowledge my efforts because I did it! I lost the weight. I am a healthier, lighter, happier, stronger, wiser, and confident Black woman!
Eating Habits: I changed my eating habits by educating myself about the foods I ate. I was eager to learn about food. I cut out sugar, table salt, processed/canned foods, fast foods, and junk food. I started eating fruits with seeds, green veggies rich in protein, nuts (such as walnuts and almonds), and vegan alternatives to my favorite foods. I swapped honey for maple syrup and swapped cow milk for almond, coconut, and cashew milk. I found healthy alternatives to all of my favorite foods.
Workout Routine: I got back in the gym in April. I work out 4 to 5 times a week, 2 hours a day. Discipline has kept me in the gym. Youโll need discipline because you wonโt feel motivated to work out every day. I do all kinds of exercises, and Iโm always learning new exercises.
I work different muscle groups on different days. Mondays are leg days. On Tuesdays, I work my back, shoulders, chest, and so on. I deadlift three times a week and work my legs and glutes three times a week. Iโm very open-minded when it comes to working out. I do lunges, squat variations, free weights, bodyweight exercises, core exercises, HIIT, cable exercises, and so on.
Biggest Lesson: The biggest lesson I learned is that getting fit and healthy is a lifestyle that has connected me closer to myself. It has made me stronger, mentally, emotionally, and physically. Iโve learned to love and appreciate myself and my body. It takes commitment, and thereโs so much to learn!
Advice: The advice Iโd give to other people who want to lose weight would be to start NOW! Just start. That is the first most crucial part. Concentrate on more than losing weight. No, you wonโt feel motivated to workout every day. Youโll need discipline. Get fit and healthy because itโs good for your body!
