Transformation of the Day: Mikita lost over 70 pounds. This blogger and mom of 3 was on a mission to flatten her belly by her 40th birthday. She changed her lifestyle, one habit at a time. Drinking lots of water, eating healthier food and exercising regularly was the right combination. Check out her story.
I just wanted to share that I reached my #FlatBy40 goal! I snapped the before picture (after losing about 50 pounds.) I was well on my way, but the amount of belly fat I carried was shocking. So, I set off on a mission to get my stomach flat by my 40th birthday (which was in November 2016).
I focused on a few things: drinking a gallon of water everyday, eliminating all bread and white pasta, not eating anything after 9:00pm, and drinking green tea or smooth move herbal tea at night.
What inspired you to keep going, even when things got tough?
Honestly, what kept me going was that starting over is a bitch! Each time I would start to slack off and see 10 pounds come back, I would remember what it was like to weigh close to 300 pounds, and I refused to go back to that.
What are some of the healthy foods that you eat for meals and snacks?
Almonds (dark chocolate dusted for a sweet), turkey and cheese sticks andsugar snap peas for snacks. My dinner is always includes 2 veggies or a salad, paired with protein (steak, chicken or fish).
What did your workout routines look like?
I starting by just walking. Then I discovered that the only way to really tone up is lifting weights. I downloaded a workout app (bodybuilding.com) and started following the beginners weight lifting training. I also love boxing and yoga! In fact, I just got certified as a yoga instructor this year.
How often did you workout?
Daily. Everyday I do something. I may not be dripping in sweat, but I at least do yoga before bed or take a walk.
Starting weight/Current weight
I got on the scale and weighed 275 pounds. I’m sure that I gained more weight after that, but refused to look. Honestly, I don’t own a scale nor do I weigh myself these days. I measure my victories in inches and how my clothes fit. The last time I got on a scale was 2016 and I weighed 199 pounds. My height is 5’7″.
When did you start your journey?
Summer 2012
What advice do you have for other people who want to lose weight?
Start with one change, like not drinking soda (or sweet tea in my case). Add a 20 minutes walk, drink more water, add a veggie to your dinner, stop eating fast food… Just change one unhealthy habit at a time. I feel like people fail when they try to change their whole life all at once.
