Mika lost 39 pounds with gastric sleeve weight loss surgery. Let’s show her some love for sharing her journey with us. She was inspired by another story we featured and found a mentor. Here is what she had to say:
Hello, My name is Mika. I am a mom of eight children who has been struggling with my weight for many of years. My family struggles with a lot health issues and I have been blessed not to have to endure any. I knew if I didn’t do anything about my weight I would soon find out what my family members are going through. This March, I opted for the Gastric Sleeve my procedure. It was performed on 3/14/2013. My weight prior to my procedure was 256 pounds and my current weight is 217 pounds. I can proudly say since the surgery, I have lost 39 pounds. I am on a strict calorie diet of 800 calories post surgery. I walk and exercise with Hip hop abs on daily basis. It felt phenomenal to go into a clothing store I haven’t been able to patronage in over 13 years. My children and husband are my motivation. I need to be here for them. I also want to thank Black Women Losing Weight as well, because I gained a mentor from a past story. Thanks to Tamika Gale, I don’t feel alone in this journey. I love the fact that she has been through what I am going through and embraced me with open arms. Thank you BWLW YOU ROCK!!!!!
Temeka says
Hello to all the BWLW,
My name is Temeka and I am abouts to have the gastric sleeve next month on November 19th. I am a little nervous, but excited.
I’ve been struggling with losing weight for the last 7 years and I am just fed up with trying everything and nothing truely working.
I have gained a lot of insight and knowledge from this website. I am currently 215lbs and my goal according to my BMI, I need to be 125lbs.
I am ready to start this new journey in life. I am married to a soilder so working out comes easy to me. It’s just that it wasn’t working. I do hip hop abs, Julian Micheals, and go on walks and jogs with my husband and two daughters. As well as accompany friends to workout classes.
I am 5″2. So being 215lbs is a lot of weight to be carrying around. I have high blood pressure and I have a sweet tooth. Diabetes run in my family and I do not want to get it.
I am going to school for nursing, so if I am going to be a nurse and am studying about the anatomy of the body and how it functions and works. with knowing all of this, I don’t want to be a overweight nurse.
Does anyone have any advice for me on my up coming surgery?
Thanks.
P.S. Sorry for the long message! lol
