Melissa lost 31 pounds. This mom got the wakeup call she needed during an annual checkup. She did not want to be put on high blood pressure medication, and decided that day to start changing her lifestyle. Over the course of 6 months, she has transformed by eating healthy and exercising on a regular basis.
What was your motivation?
My motivation was when I went to the doctor’s office for my annual checkup. I was told that my blood pressure was so high that I needed to take medicine. The doctor asked me if was already on medicine. I said (in the nicest way), “No, and I don’t plan on being on any medicine.” I knew that I didn’t want to be on pills for the rest of my life. However, I also knew that I wanted to stick around for my sons a little while longer.
How did you change your eating habits?
I changed my eating habits by eating more vegetables and fruit. I didn’t like eating certain things, and spinach was one of them. Now, spinach is my best friend, along with mix greens, kale, broccoli, and so forth. I stopped eating fried foods and broke away from junk foods. I also used the 10 Day Green Smoothie Cleanse. I also drank more water (96 -128 ounces per day).
What did you do in terms of exercise?
I worked out for 45 – 90 minutes, 6 days a week, doing something different on each day. That could be walking up and down my basement steps, skating, jogging, lifting weights, dancing, etc. I was always moving.
Starting weight/Current weight
My starting weight was 256 pounds, and now I weigh in at 225 pounds. I am 5’3″.
When did you start your journey?
I started my journey in 2015, but I got serious about my health on September 1, 2016. This transformation has taken me 6 months so far. No surgeries were involved. I did this the natural way, by changing what I ate, exercising and getting proper rest.
What advice do you have for other people who want to lose weight?
The advice I have for others who want to lose weight is:
1. You have to do this for yourself because sometimes YOU may be your only cheerleader.
2. Be dedicated to the process, stay focused and push yourself.
3. Don’t let disappointments stop you from reaching your goals.
4. NEVER STOP TRYING!
