Transformation of the Day: Melanie lost 73 pounds. This proud nurse wanted to be a healthy example for her daughters. By becoming a vegetarian and an avid runner, this Alpha Kappa Alpha soror has achieved these impressive results.
I began my weight loss journey at 235 pounds. I have lost 73 pounds, and I currently weigh 162 pounds. I became vegetarian, started eating clean, and fell in love with running.
What was your motivation?
I’m a nurse, and I wanted to be as healthy as I could be. I also wanted to be a good example for my two daughters.
How did you change your eating habits?
On June 3rd, 2019, I stopped eating meat cold turkey. I picked a day to start, and just “Did It.” In the beginning, I still ate seafood. Then, I was able to eliminate that and not use animal protein at all.
What is your workout routine?
I run 2 miles every day. That’s my workout routine.
What is your height?
I’m 5’6″.
When did you start your weight loss journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started in June 2019, and I made it through my birthday month (October). During the holidays, things progressed a little slower, but I re-committed at the beginning of the year. [2020]
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
Once your mind commits, it’s easy for your body to follow.
