Transformation of the Day: Maya lost 33 pounds. At 26 years old, she didn’t like the way she looked, and she was avoiding mirrors. For accountability, shared her journey online and joined Weight Watchers. Check out her story.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going when you wanted to give up?
At 26 years old, I reached 231 pounds at 5’1″. I knew something had to change. I hated the way I looked in pictures and started to avoid mirrors. Weight watchers gave me some much-needed accountability to reach my goals.
What inspired me to keep going was my weight loss Instagram account. I made it for accountability, and I didn’t want to start something and not finish it. I knew people were watching.
How did you change your eating habits?
I changed my eating habits by finding healthier alternatives to my favorite foods. I would look for fat-free or low-fat options. I also used portion control when it came to my favorite meals, so I never felt deprived.
What did your workout routine consist of?
I started going to the gym three days a week, focusing on my arms one day, legs the other and back, and cardio the last day. I YouTubed arm, leg and back workouts, and created boards on Pinterest with various workouts.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
I started my journey on December 6, 2018 at 231 pounds. My current weight is now 198.5 pounds. I haven’t been under 200lbs since 2017, so I’m really excited. It’s been a little over a year now.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
The biggest lesson I learned is that your journey is going to be different from everyone else’s. Don’t compare. Take notes, and don’t get discouraged with your progress, no matter how small or how slow.
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
My advice: Just keep going. What matters is that you never give up.
