Transformation of the Day: May Jah Simoné lost 43 pounds. She wanted to be a healthy example for her children and address her high blood pressure. She is getting results by going keto with a plant-based focus and working out at home.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
My kids are my biggest motivation. I didn’t want them to struggle with their weight like I did. I wanted to show and teach them how to lose weight instead of just telling them. As a result, my oldest son lost 20 lbs along with me.
Also, I started my weight loss journey due to issues with my blood pressure. I was told that losing weight would help my blood pressure, and my numbers did improve!
How did you change your eating habits?
I started off doing keto. However, I had to switch to plant-based keto because the meat was just too much for my system. Eventually, I want to go raw vegan. That’s my long-term goal.
I stopped eating a crapload of carbs, sugar, pork, beef, and chicken. Instead, I mostly ate plant-based protein (no soy).
What is your workout routine?
I get bored fast because I don’t enjoy working out in my 40s anymore. Lol! So, I often switch it up and do a mixture of things. I’m a little older, so I be kickin it with #BillyBlanks sometimes in my garage. #Taebo still be hittin.
I walk my dog. I also have a treadmill, row machine, total gym, and weighted exercise balls. I use my treadmill the most. When I’m feeling lazy, I just get on my treadmill and walk at a decent pace. (3.0-3.3) Sometimes I listen to music or turn on the tv and watch a movie while walking. That seems to help the time pass quicker.
How often did you work out?
Lately, I’ve just been walking on my treadmill six days a week. One hour minimum or when I clear 2-3 miles. 2 miles 6 days/ week is my minimum goal. So at a minimum, I’m clearing 12+ miles per week.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was almost 255 pounds. My current weight is 212 pounds. I can’t wait until I’m under 200 lbs!
What is your height?
I’m almost 5’8”
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No, it was important for me to lose weight naturally 100%. However, when I am done losing all the weight I want to lose, I will consider removing loose skin if I have it (especially on my abdomen).
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started my weight loss journey in June 2021, so it’s been about a year.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
Never EVER give up on yourself.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
If you have a bad day/week, IT’S OK! Dust yourself off and keep going!
