Transformation of the Day: Maryam lost 135 pounds. Wedding planning, relocating and starting a new job led to stress, depression and significant weight gain. She knew that she needed help to get her life back in order, so she sought out the right people who could support her on this journey. Check out her story.
In 2014, I gained over 100 pounds from stress and depression. Around this time, I was planning my wedding, relocating and starting a new job. All I did was work, eat, and sleep. I was in a state of serious depression and didn’t even know it. I shut everyone out just to keep others from seeing how much weight I had gained. On my wedding day, people didn’t recognize me. I was a whole house. I weighed 311 pounds! I’ll never forget that number.
I started my fitness lifestyle in 2015. With the help of therapy, I was able to get my life back in order. I went to a nutritionist, joined a gym and left my stressful job. Now, I live a healthier lifestyle!
What inspired you to keep going when you wanted to give up/when things got tough?
I was inspired by results! I set goals each month and once I started seeing physical changes, I wanted nothing more than to reach my ultimate goals… To look in the mirror and be happy with the woman staring back.
How did you change your eating habits?
I needed professional help from a nutritionist. I learned how to fuel my body for energy and I learned all about portion control. My nutritionist taught me how to properly read the nutritional labels on food as well. I learned what to look for and what’s bad for me. I cut out many processed foods and refined sugars. My meals are high on protein and low on carbohydrates.
What did your workout routine look like?
I needed help with working out, so I hired a personal trainer for 1 month to teach me how to properly work by muscles and achieve my desired results. After that month, I worked out on my own following what he showed me. I also used YouTube videos. I worked out 4-5 days a week.
Starting weight/Current weight
My starting weight was 311 pounds and my current weight is 176 pounds. My height is 5’7″
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
Seek help if you need it! I had to get my mind in a better place before I could begin my physical journey. With the help of therapy, a nutritionist, and a physical trainer I was able to achieve my goals.
What advice would you share with women who want to lose weight?
Again, it’s okay to seek personal help! Your insurance covers this! Just consult with your PCP. They will help you with this journey. You do not have to do this alone.
