Transformation of the Day: Marsha lost 110 pounds. Her secret weapon: Her beloved daughter who is her personal “health guru”. The encouragement and love that she gave her mother is priceless. Running, working out 5-6 days a week and eating clean was key to her success. This proud mom shared her awesome story with us. Check it out.
Somehow I found myself in a state of being unhealthy. My doctors wanted to put me on high blood pressure medication, and at one point I was pre-diabetic. My guidance came through God and a little person with a huge message… an amazing soul: my 7-year old little girl Kumari.
She told me everyday that she wanted me to be healthy like her. She told me to drink green smoothies like her. She told me she wanted me to be healthy because she loves me. Her love is an amazing love because in 7.5 months I dropped 90+ pounds. Today, I’ve lost 110 lbs, and my fitness journey is just beginning.
My little girl encourages me along the way. She inspires me and drops knowledge on everyone she meets. She is the health guru. (We may certify that title.) I am blessed with THE SINGLE MOST WONDERFUL LITTLE GIRL ON THE PLANET…HANDS DOWN.
I started kickboxing, drinking half my body weight in water, and adding more fruits and veggies to my diet. I worked out 5-6 days a week. After a while, I was able to run. I joined a running gym called the Mile High Run Club and trained for my first 10k race. Since then, I have qualified for the NYC 2018 marathon by running a list of races, including 2 half-marathons, 15k, 8k, and other distances. My little girl also runs with me!
I ate clean and drank half my body weight in ounces of water. I added fresh fruits and veggies to my diet, and didn’t eat out nearly as much as before. Our refrigerator is always full of fresh veggies and we buy water in bulk every week. I basically adopted a healthy lifestyle that my daughter and I can practice long-term.
The people around me have noticed how I’ve changed and they encourage me to continue my journey in a healthy way. When I changed my mindset, God blessed me with people who would guide me.
I’ve given my little girl what she deserves; a healthy mom. A mom who can play and run around with her. A mom who will lead her along the right path by practicing healthy behaviors and not by simply dictating to her what she should do. A mom who beats odds, which means my little girl will know she is literally and unabashedly unstoppable.
One day in July 2016, I started this journey at 260+ pounds and I was unable to buy workout clothes at the store. Now, I weigh 150 pounds (height: 5 feet tall), and I am grateful that I was blessed to start my journey when I did. It took about a year to lose the weight.
I’m not at my goal weight, but I am so thankful for the progress I have made thus far. I am looking forward to growth with my little girl.
The biggest lesson I have learned is that water is super important. It is also important to find a good exercise classes, because they can be useful in providing more structure in terms of your workouts.
My advice: Find a reason that motivates you and start somewhere Also, find workout organizations where the instructors are in tune with your progress.
