Transformation of the Day: Mariah lost 56 pounds. At the start of 2019, she embraced the Ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting. During her journey, she broke up with the scale and learned how to trust the process. Check out her story.
On January 1, 2019, I weighed in at 223 pounds. That was the day I started the Keto diet. I’m down to 167 pounds, but I’m not done yet. I’m learning to be patient with myself and trust the process. The scale doesn’t always move, but my body is healing itself from years of neglect. Taking progress pictures really helps me when I’m at a stall.
What was your motivation?
I’m only 5’3”, so 223lbs was too much weight on me. I also wanted to be around for my son.
Tell us about how you changed your lifestyle.
All year, I’ve been on Keto, and I do intermittent fasting. I completely went cold turkey and dropped down to 25 grams of carbs or less a day. I also started doing 30 minute HIIT workouts, but most of my weight loss came from changing my diet.
What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
I was really tired of hating what I looked like in pictures. We had a family vacation planned for the Bahamas, and I refused to not be in any of the vacation pictures again.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson that I’ve learned is to trust the process. It sounds like a cliche, but it’s the truth. You can’t compare your journey to anyone else’s. You have to figure out what works for you and stick to it.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
Break up with your scale. Don’t let it dictate how you feel for the day. Measure your success by how you feel and how your clothes are fitting. Also, take as many pix as you possibly can. You’ll start noticing a difference far before that number on the scale changes.
