Mariah lost 31 pounds with healthy eating habits and exercise. This mom of two was diagnosed with diabetes after giving birth to my second child. Tired of giving up on herself, she took action to become a healthy mom and wife.
My name is Mariah, and I am a 29-year-old mother of two and a wife. This journey has been challenging, but I can’t give up.
What was your motivation?
My motivation was my children. I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes after giving birth to my second child. At that point, I was pushing 300 pounds. I didn’t want my kids to grow up with an unhealthy mom. I want to be there physically for everything that they have going on. I was also motivated by my husband, whom I felt deserved a healthy wife.
What inspired you to keep going when you wanted to give up?
What inspired me was my lack of self-esteem. I was tired of quitting on myself. I wanted to know what I could be or look like if I never gave up.
How did you change your eating habits?
I changed my eating habits by cutting out sweets, sodas, and sweet tea. I also eased up on the starch. Now, I drink water all day with everything.
What did your workout routine look consist of?
I trained with Dr. Keith K Curry and his business, Maximizing Your Moment, every morning. I did HITT training as part of the MYM motivation support group. It was strictly full-body workouts along with cardio!
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 296 pounds. I currently weigh 265 pounds, and I am still on my journey to get to 215 pounds.
What is your height?
I am 5’7″.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started my journey in October 2019. It is now May 2020, and I am still on my journey.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
The biggest lesson I have learned that defeat is only in your mind. Change the way you think, and your body will shed excess negativity.
What advice do you have for people who want to lose weight?
I would encourage anyone who is trying to lose weight to get outside of their own mind and let go. If the mind is free, the body has the freedom to shed weight.
