What was your motivation?
My motivation was my daughter. I hated the fact that I couldn’t keep up with her. I realized that I owed it to my baby to take care of myself so I could be around for her.
There are many things I can’t control in life, but I decided that my health was not one of those things. My trainer and my Bodfit family kept me inspired. They kept me going even when I was ready to quit. They held me accountable and kept me focused on my goal.
How did you change your eating habits? My eating habits changed significantly. I cut out all my favorite things (bread, candy, fried foods, rice, soda, salt, alcohol, pasta, etc.). I increased my intake of fruits and veggies and stuck to a strict meal schedule. I never realized just how much your diet impacts weight loss until I started this journey.
At first, it was difficult because I wasn’t used to eating five times a day, but gradually I got used to it. Now my body rarely feels hungry. During the journey, I did partake in the cabbage soup diet, which helped to rid some of the water weight I retained. Remember: Food is your FUEL. Fuel your body with nutritious food and watch how it shows up for you in the gym!
What is your workout routine?
I work out six days a week (3 days with a trainer and three days at home). I did a combination of weight training, functional strength training, and cardio. Each day I focus on specific workouts to allow certain body parts to rest and recover.
Starting weight/Current weight
I started at 241 pounds. As of today, I am 210 at 5’7″. This transformation was over a 3-month period. I started in Oct 2022.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson I learned was how important it is to monitor what we eat. Going to the gym seven days a week means nothing if you’re not putting the proper food into your body. My trainer was very strict about what I put in my body and reminded me that every “cheat day” set me back at least three weeks. I did not have the time OR the money to play around.
I also learned that not every exercise routine is for everyone. Identify your goal and do workouts that aid in accomplishing that goal! So no more random sets, ladies.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
Ladies, stick with it even on the days you don’t want to. I’d never successfully lost weight until now because I wasn’t prepared mentally. This journey requires a complete lifestyle change and a change in mindset. You must be ready to let go of a lot of things to get where you want.
- Remember that FOOD IS YOUR FUEL!
- Follow people who inspire you to be better.
- Don’t give up on yourself. We all deserve to show up for ourselves.
- Give yourself grace every day. This is not an easy journey, and you might fall off. It happens…just don’t give up.
