Maikeya lost 27 pounds. She felt terrible while studying aboard in Amman, Jordan, due to the extreme heat. When she returned home, she found low carb and Keto alternatives to her favorite foods and started working out four days a week.
I adapted to a new healthy lifestyle after studying aboard in Amman, Jordan. I was extremely uncomfortable doing the whole experience because of my weight, and I knew I needed to make a change. I’m down 27 pounds and feeling amazing.
What was your motivation?
In Amman, my body felt defeated while traveling under their extreme hot weather conditions. I was 24 years old at the time, but I felt 42 years old, and that’s when I knew I needed to make a change. I was in pain and felt disconnected from my body. I was motivated to change that.
What inspired you to keep going when you wanted to give up?
Being connected to my body is what inspired me not to give up when I wanted to. She (my body) deserved so much better than what I was putting into her and depriving her of.
How did you change your eating habits?
I changed my eating habits by finding Keto and low carb alternatives to my favorite foods and snacks. For example, instead of eating high carb pizza, I would make pizza using bell peppers instead of pizza dough. I find peace when I create low carb recipes from my favorite foods.
What did your workout routine consist of? (Cardio, weight training, etc.)
My workout routine consists of cardio and light weight training.
How often did you workout?
I work out at a gym at least twice a week and I do activities, such as walking, twice a week.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My Starting weight was 248 pounds, and I currently weigh 221 pounds.
What is your height?
I am 5’4″.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started my weight loss journey in March 2019. Honestly, my transformation took longer than anticipated because I lost faith and stopped my journey more than two times. I restarted back in January 2020 and watched my body transform within two months.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
The biggest lesson I learned during my weight loss journey is to trust the process. Weight loss isn’t something that can happen as quickly as overnight. It might take weeks or even months for a person to see progress. That doesn’t mean that eating right and exercising isn’t working. It just means that we have to trust the process before seeing results.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
Take it one pound at a time and one day at a time. Don’t obsess over the scale and drink water.
