Transformation of the Day: Mahogany lost 45 pounds. This young lady suffered the tragedy of losing her child during pregnancy due to weight-related hormone issues. After that, her doctor gave her a wakeup call about her weight and it was the last straw. She decided to start making choices that would ensure better health. Check out what she shared with us about her lifestyle change.
My name is Mahogany, but I go by “Moe”. I’ve lost 45 pounds to date. I started my fitness journey last March, so its been about 10 and a half months. I’ve always been a heavy girl for as long as I can remember. I’ve always been comfortable in my skin and it never bothered me. So, you’re probably wondering why I had the sudden desire to lose weight?
About a year and a half ago, I was pregnant and I was about half way through my pregnancy when I lost my daughter Faith. I basically lost her due to hormone issues from being over weight. As you can imagine it broke me. About six months later, I was at the doctor’s office and she spoke to me about trying again. She said that she wouldn’t recommend it if I’m still heavy. She also recommended getting gastric bypass weight loss surgery. At this point, I weighed 304 pounds. That was my wake up call. I didnt want surgery and most importantly I wanted to someday be a mother.
So, in March I started my fitness journey. When I began, I ate healthy, but then I sort of fell off when I started losing weight and hit a 3 month plateau. I was ready to give up, since I became so frustrated.
Through social media, I was sharing my journey. I couldn’t let people down, most importantly I couldnt let myself down. I reached out to a young lady on facebook who I had been following for about six months. She was a Beachbody coach and I knew from her posts that she helped women get fit and healthier. I started inspiring so many people that I have now became a beachbody coach and I’m also helping people to change their lives. I’m paying it forward.
My biggest thing that was affecting my weight before I started my journey was eating fast food. I hated cooking. Lets face it, fast food is convenient. I ate it at least twice a day. Now, I’m on a set meal plan eating protein, healthier carbs, veggies, tons of fruit and healthy fats.
I actually work out a whole lot. As of right now, I do about 6 days of a program through called “Hammer and Chisel”, 1-2 days of kickboxing and a day of Zumba. When I started my journey, I weighed 304 pounds and I currently currently weigh 259 pounds. I’m 5 foot, 9 inches tall.
Advice for people trying to lose weight? Don’t give up. Fight for yourself. Reach out, get an accountability partner and keep each other accountable. That has honestly been the vital key to my success.
