What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
I am Lynette Adamson, a mother of four grown children and a divorced woman. My journey with weight issues has been long since my adulthood. In 2011, my weight had reached 326 pounds, and it concerned me greatly, considering my job medical field, where I was responsible for setting up services for clients who could not care for themselves due to various medical conditions.
I knew I needed to make some significant changes in my life, so I opted to undergo gastric sleeve surgery on July 1, 2011, and the results were remarkable. I lost over 100 lbs and kept it off for almost eight years.
However, in 2018, I was involved in an automobile accident that forced me to have two surgeries and be out of work for some time. Unfortunately, my old habits seeped back in, and I started gaining weight again.
In 2020, I was introduced to the Keto lifestyle, which completely transformed my life. I have lost over 80 lbs and have helped many people by teaching them this new way of eating. Unlike traditional diets, Keto is a lifestyle change that involves following a specific blueprint to burn fat while enjoying delicious foods. It has become a passion for me, and seeing its positive impact on others motivates me to keep pushing myself to be the best version of myself.
Giving up is not an option for me, especially when I receive heartfelt thanks from people who have benefitted from my help. It inspires me to keep pushing myself, so I can continue to help people achieve their goals.
How did you change your eating habits?
I’m a proud follower of the Ketogenic diet, which is more of a lifestyle that I have fully embraced. This unique way of eating involves consuming high-fat, moderate protein, and low-carb foods, which forces the body to use its stored fat as a primary fuel source. By making necessary modifications and substitutions, we can achieve a state called Ketosis. This is when the body turns our fat into Ketones in the liver, resulting in weight and inches loss.
People on the Ketogenic diet avoid starches such as rice, pasta, and other high-carb foods. However, we can still enjoy our favorite dishes using substitutes like cauliflower rice, mac and cheese, and mashed potatoes. Over the years, we have gotten creative with our food options and now have bread rolls and other tasty alternatives. It’s worth noting that this lifestyle has gained popularity, with more and more grocery stores, restaurants, and physicians supporting the Keto lifestyle, proving that it’s not a fad. Keto has also touched many people’s lives, including celebrities, and has become a staple in several communities.
What is your workout routine?
Aerobic exercise (aka low-intensity, steady-state cardio activities) is the best type of workout when following a strict keto diet. This includes strength training, yoga, and stability training. For my cardio, I use my stationary cycling bike.
In addition, I’ve incorporated dance workouts and walking videos from YouTube. I also walk on the track for 2 to 3 miles, jump rope, and do moderate workouts using weights.
How often did you work out?
I work out approximately three times per week.
What was your starting weight?
My starting weight was 272 pounds.
What is your current weight?
My current weight is 190 pounds.
What is your height?
My height is 5’8″.
What was your experience with weight loss surgery?
It was the beginning of my journey, which, if I had known then what I know now, I would have held off. I have no regrets, though. Gastric sleeve is a major surgery that I would not recommend to anyone without extensive research, support groups, etc. I was left unprepared, with weight pouring off me. I lost weight, muscle mass, etc. More importantly, I lost myself! I didn’t even recognize the person looking back at me in the mirror. I fell into a depression and became a hermit. I had no support, no preparation, no information, or resources. It was years ago, so hopefully, the process has changed.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I officially restarted my weight loss journey in 2020. Although I’m still a work in progress, I am proud to say that it only took a year to lose over 80 pounds.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is never to give up on yourself! You are never too old to make changes!! I’ve also learned that it’s ok to love yourself. I spent my entire life caring for others, personally and professionally! Self-love is KEY!! I decided it was time to be a little selfish and love myself for a change!!
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
It starts with a decision. Losing weight is not easy, but it’s possible. As long as you understand the benefits of losing weight, the battle begins. It’s like anything else you want in life. You have to work for it! Nothing comes easy. It took years to gain weight, and there is no quick fix.
Stay consistent and find support. Losing weight is both mental and physical!! With my weight loss challenges, accountability is critical! This battle is much easier won when you have like-minded people on the same journey. Together we dig deep from within and get the job done.
To all the women that want to lose weight, it’s helpful to write out your “WHY”! When you can visualize your reasons, it makes the battle that much easier. It will be your source of motivation.
