Lia lost 108 pounds by trusting the process. She learned to look at food as fuel and not just a thing to enjoy. She also did a lot of cardio, strength training, and boxing.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started back in 2011, and it’s still going on today. This is a lifestyle for me. It took me about a year to lose 100 pounds.
What was your motivation? What inspired you when you wanted to give up?
Honestly, I looked in the mirror one day, and I didn’t like the person who was looking back at me. I decided to make a change that day.
When I wanted to give up, I realized the days were going to come and go whether I decided to get healthy or not, so why not just use the time wisely.
How did you change your eating habits?
I changed my eating habits by looking at food as fuel vs. enjoyment. I didn’t cut out everything at once. I gradually did it instead. I created my own plan/method and just did what worked best for me through trial and error. My eating habits are still a work in progress as I modify them for my current lifestyle.
What did your workout routine look like? How often did you workout?
When I started back in 2011, I did workouts at-home three times a week for about 30 minutes. Today, I work out 4-6 times a week for 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours. I do a lot of cardio, strength training, and boxing.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 331 pounds. I currently weigh between 223-230 pounds. I try to stay away from the scale. As women, our weight fluctuates daily, and that can be so disheartening. As long as I look great and I’m happy with myself, I don’t care about the scale.
What is your height?
5’10”
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No. I didn’t have weight loss surgery.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
I learned to trust the process. True weight loss isn’t fast. It’s a long road that takes patience and learning your body. Trust the process and keep going no matter what.
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
My advice: Just get started. Whether it be cutting out one soda per day, or beginning with a 10-minute walk each day, just get started. Surround yourself with positive, like-minded people, whether it be virtually or in person.
