LaTisha lost 23 pounds in a little more than 2 months. This mom of four is not waiting until she reaches her ultimate goal to celebrate her success. By cutting out sugar, counting calories, working out regularly and changing her mindset she’s made lots of progress. Check out what she shared about her journey.
My name is LaTisha H. I’m 30 years old and I wanted to share my weight loss journey with you all!
What was your motivation?
My motivation was my babies and my husband. As a wife and mother of four, I know that my family needs me to be around for a long time! With the way I was eating and carrying on, I knew that if I kept going down that path, I wouldn’t be here as long as I want to be. I also needed to do this for me!
How did you change your eating habits?
I used to eat sugar all day, every day! Cakes, ice cream, cookies… if it was sweet, I was eating it. The first thing I cut out was sugar. I knew if I was going to be successful with losing any weight, I had to get rid of the sweets. No more 12 packs of Pepsi in the house. No more mint chocolate chip ice cream. I no longer cook white rice. I threw it all out and bought only healthy foods.
Now I enjoy vegetables with every meal. I’m not a big fruit person but I do try to eat at least two pieces of fruit each day. I also drink 64oz or more of water each day. My family and I enjoy wheat bread, wheat pasta, english muffins and brown rice. I count my calories and I make sure I don’t go over a certain amount. If I mess up and go over, I don’t beat myself up because tomorrow is always a new day and a new chance to start to make better choices.
What did your workout routines look like?
My workouts include walking, strength training and Zumba. I workout at least 5-6 days a week. I try to get 45-1hr in each for each workout.
Starting weight/Current weight?
My starting weight was 244 pounds and my current weight is 221 pounds. My height is 5’2″.
When did you start your journey?
On April 19th 2016. No surgery. I’m doing this all natural.
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
I have a long way to go before I meet my final goal. I don’t look at the whole picture. Instead, I take it 5 pounds at a time. My advice for anyone trying to lose weight is to get rid of every negative thought. I wanted to lose weight for so many years, but it wasn’t until I started to encourage myself, and then act upon it that I began to see and feel a difference. (throwing out the bad foods, eating healthy, working out even when I didn’t feel like it that day, etc.)
I want to meet my goal so bad, but I know that it’s going to take time, patience and hard work in order for me to get there. Looking at the whole picture can be discouraging, so I’m continually reminding myself of how far I’ve come. It’s also extremely important to surround yourself with people who will support you! I couldn’t have made it this far without my husband and my parents holding me accountable!
If I can do this, you can do it too! So get out there and move!

Keep going and you will succeed. I’m determined to meet my goal also and you have been a great encouragement…especially in looking at the smaller picture at a time (5lbs). I’m going to look at my goal on a weekly basis, that will turn into a monthly change, that will continue to go on from there….
