Latavia lost 15 pounds. Her motivation was a desire to feel good about herself again and love what she saw in the mirror. She knows that slow and steady wins the race. Taking things one small step at a time was key to her success. Check out her story.
What was your motivation?
What gave me the motivation to start working out was honestly the fact I could not look myself in the mirror without feeling sad. I knew there was something I had to change to feel happy about myself again. My biggest driver was just taking things one day at a time and not getting ahead of myself.
The motivation that allowed me to get through the tough times was looking back at old photos and knowing I did not want to go back to that time and place.
How did you change your eating habits?
I found that the best way to change my food habits was doing it a little at a time. Honestly, changing my eating habits has been the hardest part. Thinking about the changes from a health perspective has allowed me to get better. I stopped eating fast food as often as I was. I also started replacing fries with vegetables. (When I did have fries, I made sure my portions were small.)
What was your workout routine?
I began my workout plan by doing weight training with a trainer for a month to learn some of the basics and kickstart my journey. When I started working out on my own, I added cardio to almost all my workouts. I did a little bit of running at my own pace for about 15-30 minutes at a time. Then, I divided my week between leg days and arm days. I used things like Pinterest to come up with exercise routines to do. Also, I tried adding a little ab workout at the end, like planks, to tighten my core more.
Starting weight/Current weight
My starting weight was 205 pounds. I am currently at 190 pounds. I have not lost much, but I think my story will show that it does not have to be some crazy weight loss to show strength and courage. Everyone has different journeys, and it may take longer for people to get where they are going, but the biggest take away is to keep going.
What advice would you like to share?
The advice I would give to someone just starting is to do it, even when you don’t want to do it. A little progress each day is better than nothing. Do not be hard on yourself. You are going to fail here and there, but just keep trying. I look at myself in the mirror with so much more joy and I am so hopeful for the future to see what more is to come.
