What was your motivation?
I am a 31-year-old mother of three small children who has been fighting a food addiction for many years. I tried everything to lose weight, from diet pills to the low-carb lifestyle and from detox teas to the Hcg diet. Some of the diets worked, and I lost some weight. However, I still managed to put the weight I lost back on due to my food addiction.
As a result, the A1c level for my diabetes increased, and I became depressed. I was depressed to the point where I couldn’t fully attend to my children. I almost lost hope and knew I needed to make a change.
My motivation stemmed from watching YouTube videos, mainly weight loss motivational stories. I became inspired by the women who lost weight through vertical sleeve surgery [VSG]. After further research, I decided to get VSG surgery on January 4, 2022.
Starting weight/Current weight
My highest weight was 284 pounds, and I currently weigh 200 pounds. I lost 84 pounds in just seven months.
What is your height?
I’m 5’7″.
How did you change your eating and exercise habits?
Since surgery. I eat smaller portions and exercise by dancing (cardio and different YouTube videos) at least four days a week and go walking on weekends.
What advice would you like to share?
My advice to other women who are also struggling with food addiction: Research VSG and see if it’s the right option for you.
Also, if you are on your weight loss journey, never give up. Start over every day if you have to. I am grateful for my tool. I am no longer on diabetes medication or insulin. I have more energy to play with my children. Also, I have a newfound style and confidence.
My food addiction and depression are gone. I have learned patience on this journey. And that you don’t need to go to the gym to lose weight. You can work out at home, eat smaller portions and still lose weight. I hope my weight loss experience will help someone else.
