Transformation of the Day: Kuziva lost 97 pounds with Keto, intermittent fasting, and exercise. She achieved success despite the challenges of leaving a toxic marriage, becoming a single parent, working part-time, and being a full-time student. Check out her story.
After years of many failed diets and attempting to lose weight since I was a teenager, I decided to take back my health in June 2018. At 235 pounds, I began Keto with intermittent fasting. After a month of incorporating this low carb, high-fat way of eating, I started exercising and making these changes a lifestyle.
How did you change your eating habits? What is your exercise routine?
I followed Keto very strictly and exercised four days out of the week. My routine includes cardio, strength training, and weight lifting.
I stopped eating, potatoes, pasta, rice, bread, and sugar. For the most part, I eat chicken, turkey bacon, avocados, eggs, cheese, broccoli, greens, cauliflower, salads, lettuce tacos, berries, and nuts. I use stevia as a substitute for sugar and choose “no bun” options when eating out,
My current intermittent fasting schedule is 20:4 five days out of the week. Two days out of the week, my schedule is 16:8. In the initial stages of my weight loss journey, I started at 16:8 and later progressed to 18:6 seven days out of the week.
What is your current weight?
Today, I stand at 138 pounds, and I am happy to say I reached my goal 18 months post-start. Now, l am at a healthy weight for my height, which is 5ft, 4in.
Throughout this journey, I experienced many obstacles, including leaving a toxic marriage and becoming a single mother of three, all while being a full-time student and working. However, I remained focused and determined to reach my goals despite all the obstacles presented.
I would not be where I am today had it not been for the support I have received from family and friends throughout my journey, and for that, I am grateful. My next goals include training to run a marathon and toning my body.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson I have learned is that in order to be successful, the changes you make must become a normal part of your life and day to day routine.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
During your weight loss journey, rewiring your brain to change your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors towards food and exercise is extremely important for success and sustainability. I’m someone who has had several failed weight loss attempts in the past, and I can tell you that the most important thing is to train your mind to look at food differently. Understand your triggers, whether they are emotional or related to the environment you’re in, and find alternatives for handling those triggers.
Consistency is extremely important as well. I believe that to achieve results and be successful with anything we undertake, including weight loss, being dedicated, focused, and consistent is key. Don’t quit, even if the scale isn’t moving, keep on pushing despite any challenges as you will reach your goal eventually.
