Kristi lost 58 pounds. This proud teacher and mother of two told us that her daughters are her inspiration. She found success by adopting a low carb, high protein diet, and committing to an effective workout routine.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
My motivation to lose weight was my two girls, Zoe (16 years old) and Zali-Grace (2 years old). They inspired me to keep going because I want to be around to see everything God promised me concerning their lives.
How did you change your eating habits?
I changed my eating habits by adopting a low carb and high protein diet. I drink water all day, faithfully. I also stopped eating fried foods and french fries. I eat baked chicken, fish, and turkey. I have fallen in love with zucchini noodles, which I use to replace high carb noodles. I no longer feel like I’m missing out on anything. I have created new recipes and followed some Keto recipes I found along my journey.
What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you work out?
When I started this journey over a year ago, I would walk 4-5 times weekly while listening to gospel music and meditating on God’s goodness. After about four months, I started jogging and walking during my workouts. I plateaued around January 2020, became complacent, and gained some weight back. Due to the pandemic, I was out of work in March and was disgusted that I could not get over the hump and keep losing weight. I found the walking/jogging routine boring.
Then, I found out about E.F.F.E.C.T Fitness on Facebook, and it changed my life forever. I subscribed to their on-demand workouts and downloaded their app. The workouts consist of cardio and resistance training, as you are listening to Trap Music. The trainers are in your face and push you to become a better you. I have always hated weights, but now I am a weight set addict.
I work out 4-5 times a week. Currently, I jog a full 6 miles without stopping every Saturday morning. I do the workout videos and then jog two miles afterward (before work). I have seen my body change like never before. The resistance training was the missing piece. I can’t “weight” to see what I will look like in the next six months.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
The picture on the right is from my mother’s Gatsby style 60th birthday party on June 1, 2019. I weighed 247 pounds and hated all my pictures. I gained a lot of weight after I had my last child and ended a painful relationship. I currently weigh 189 pounds. I’m not quite where I want to be yet, but I’m determined to get below 175 pounds.
What is your height?
My height is 5’5″.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started my journey in July 2019. I really started seeing my transformation in April 2020.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
I have learned that it is okay to mess up, but you should never give up on becoming a better version of yourself. I have also learned to embrace the non-scale victories.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
Ask God to change your mindset first. Then, educate yourself on macros. I use the MyFitnessPal app to help with accountability concerning the amount of food I consume daily. I believe becoming a healthier version of yourself starts mentally first. You can do all things through Christ.
