Transformation of the Day: Kristi lost 50 pounds. After she was diagnosed with Lupus, she was not longer able to exercise which led to weight gain. By becoming a Pescatarian and finding a meal plan that works for her, this Delta Sigma Theta soror is releasing the weight.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going when you wanted to give up?
I was diagnosed with Lupus in 2013. The medication and inability to exercise caused me to gain over 70 pounds. I was a cheerleader from 1st grade through my senior year in college, so I was basically uncomfortable in my body. I got up to a size 16. I really needed a size 18, but refused to buy anymore big clothes.
How did you change your eating habits?
In December 2016, I became a Pescatarian and eliminated all meat, except for fish. By doing this, I lost 20 pounds in 8 months with no exercise. In August 2017, l was introduced to the Optavia 5&1 Plan by a coworker. Following that meal plan and incorporating a minimum of 100 ounces of water daily helped me lose another 30 pounds in 3 months with no exercise!
What did your workout routine look like?
Lupus caused a strain on my heart so working out was not approved by my doctor at first. Eventually, I was able to incorporate using the treadmill a few times a week for 30-45 minutes.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 218 pounds and my current weight is 168 pounds. My height is 5’3″. (No weight loss surgery.)
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
Eating smaller meals throughout the day with low carbs and very little sugar can completely change your body… YOU CAN DO IT!
What advice do you have for other people who want to lose weight?
Water, water, water! The water helps flush your kidneys which is where your body dumps waste for eliminating. Flush it with water to help that process along faster.
