Transformation of the Day: Kinna lost 115 pounds. She is the senior buyer for cakes and pies at Walmart and the creator of the “Pattie Pie”. She is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority and a proud HBCU grad. Despite being surrounded by delicious sweets daily, she was able to adapt her eating habits to get results. Check out her journey.
My name is Kinna. I’m a known business woman in the professional world. I’m most known for being the creator of the “Patti Pie.” I run the largest cake and pie business in the world. I said that to say… As you can image, I’m surrounded by food every day. Lots of sweet desserts and delicious baked goods.
I had been heavy since I was 12 years old. When I started the job, I weighed 286 pounds. I knew within a month that I either needed to focus on my health or I would put on even more weight. That fact, alongside some other interesting events in my life, motivated me to get healthy.
I changed my eating habits drastically. I started focusing on a high protein diet and worked around the fact that I consume at least 500-600 calories a day from sweets at work. I lost about 40 pounds by just focusing on nutrition in about 3-4 months.
Then, I started exercising at home. I was still too embarrassed to go to the gym and work out next to really fit people. The weight began to drop off faster. I used Shaun T’s Cize by Beachbody and Walk at Home with Leslie Sansone. I’m always mixing my routine up with Zumba. I also use free weights and play basketball with my kids.
I lost about 70 pounds during my first year. Now, It’s been almost 4 years on this journey and I’m consistently down 115 pounds or so. I started at a size 22/24 and 286 pounds. I currently wear a size 8/10 (most of the time a 10) I’m only 5 feet tall, so I’m still not at my goal. I want to lose about 15-20lbs more.
The biggest lesson that I’ve learned is that people actually want you to win. There’s a small group of jealous people who will make snide comments and question everything about your journey. They may even make up stuff about how you did it, but honey there are way more people rooting for you to get healthy and win. I lived my journey out loud on social media, and that helped my accountability and motivated some other folks as well.
