Transformation of the Day: Kimberly lost 79 pounds. Her motivation was a desire to look good and spend as long as possible on this earth with her family. She decided to have weight loss surgery, but knew that it would not be a quick fix. She was willing to put in the work at the table and in the gym to change her life. Check out her journey.
I’ve loss a total of 75 pounds, going from 308 pounds to 229 pounds. (height: 5’9″) I had Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG) on 5/30/2017 and it is one of the best decisions I have EVER made! I’m loving life and my transformation. It took hard work, learning to make better food choices and consistency gets these results! Weight loss surgery is NOT an end all, be all solution. You still have to change. I just needed that extra push!
What was your motivation?
My motivation was and still is wanting to live a long healthy life while looking good and being able to spend as long as possible on this earth with my husband, children and family. Death is inevitable, but there’s no need to kill myself by choosing to eat poorly and not having an active lifestyle.
What inspired you to keep going when you wanted to give up?
Seeing my body transform before my eyes keeps me inspired. Also, seeing how I inspire others continues to hold me accountable for my actions and helps me to keep pushing, KNOWING that an audience is watching.
Did you have to lose weight pre-surgery?
I lost about 15 pounds pre-surgery. However, in the past I have loss as much as 35 pounds and of course it came back because I returned to my old habits… NEVER AGAIN!
How did you change your eating habits?
Pre-surgery, I was on a low carb, high protein diet. I cut out all carbs, sugars, carbonated beverages and fried foods. Post-surgery, I eat mostly protein and veggies. My favorite meals include; crustless pizza, shrimp & broccoli and chicken breast with mixed veggies and loaded cauliflower mash.
What did your workout routine look like?
I workout 3-4 times a week. My workout includes 40 minutes of cardio followed by weights. I alternate leg and arm day. I also work on my “abs” after each workout. I have had this same routine since the doctors released me to workout after surgery.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
This weight loss thing is not a destination we arrive at. It’s a journey, especially for those of us who’ve struggled with it for years. This journey has its ups and downs, trial and error and great days and bad days but at the end of it all, it’s worth it. And I’m here for it all!
What advice do you have for other women who want to lose weight?
Do your research and make a decision on how YOUR weight loss needs to take place. Don’t compare your life to others, because the ultimate goal may be the same but each individual will battle and struggle differently. Support from others is great and needed, but ultimately the responsibly is yours. You can do ANYTHING you put your mind to.
My motto is “forward is forward”. Just keep moving forward and before you know it you will no longer be fighting for the body you want, but maintaining it. You are not perfect and you may have set backs. Don’t look back and dwell. Look forward and prevail! Get the you that you’re looking for!
