Transformation of the Day: Kim lost 51 pounds. A wake up call from her doctor got her started on her weight release journey 2 years ago. This Sigma Gamma Rho Soror learned how to experience failure on this journey without beating herself up. In the beginning, she just wanted to be a healthy example for her young son, but now she wants to inspire other women to change their lives through fitness. Check out her story.
I’m a wife, mother and proud member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. At my highest weight of 245 pounds, what changed my life was that my doctor told me that one of my arteries was hardening due to weight gain. When I looked at the picture on the right I didn’t even recognize myself. In 2 years, I’ve shed 50 pounds. Now, I weigh 194 pounds. (height: 5’6″)
What inspired you to keep going when you wanted to give up?
When I wanted to give up, I remembered my WHY which is my 5 year old son. I really want to set the best example for him. Also, I teach my own TwerkFitness classes in the Kalamazoo, MI area because I love inspiring other woman to get healthy.
How did you change your eating habits?
I cut out pop, juice, fried/processed food, foods with high fructose corn syrup and sweets. Instead, I focused on Whole Foods, like fresh fruits and vegetables.
What did your workout routine look like?
A mix of cardio, calisthenics and weight training. I workout 5 days a week
When did you start your journey?
My journey started in 2015, so my transformation has taken 2 years total.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
The biggest lesson that I have learned is that it’s ok to fail your way to your goals. I had so many ups
and downs, but I never quit. I learned to eat to live and live to eat.
What advice do you have for other women who want to lose weight?
Don’t be so hard on yourself. Give yourself room to makes mistakes. It’s okay to have that meal or that dessert every now and them.
