Transformation of the Day: Kierra lost 65 pounds. She was tired of hypertension, tired of paying extra money for plus size clothing and tired of being unhappy. To create a happier and healthier lifestyle, she focused on nutrition, worked out 4 days a week and refused to give up. Check out her journey.
Starting weight/Current weight
My starting weight was 205 pounds and now I weigh 140 pounds. I am 5’1″.
How long did your transformation take?
I started my journey in 2013. It took me 10 months to lose 65 pounds.
What was your motivation?
I began to suffer from hypertension due to the weight gain. I also got tired of paying extra money for plus size clothes. The bigger I got, the more unhappy I became with my weight. It was time for me to make a change in my life, so I decided to transform my mind and body. I wanted to live a happy and healthier lifestyle. I worked hard in the gym and used the 80% nutrition and 20% working out = 100% mindset. No surgery, just hard work and determination.
How did you change your eating and exercise habits?
Before my journey, I loved eating ice cream, hot wings and drinking soda water. I was addicted to ranch dressing and would also skip meals throughout the day. First, I decided to start the Weight Watchers program and it truly helped me understand portion control. The program also helped me understand the nutrition fact label on the back of food packaging. With the Weight Watchers point system, I began to understand exactly what I was eating. It helped me make better food decisions.
I started eating oatmeal, baked fish, chicken breast, vegetables, fruit and brown rice. I started drinking more water because I learned that soda and juices are loaded with calories and carbs that will hinder your weight loss. I also worked out 4 days a week during this time. I started out strictly doing cardio on the treadmill, elliptical or cycling bike. I lost 35 pounds with Weight Watchers.
After I learned how to eat with Weight Watchers, I started using the Herbalife Nutrition Program because I got really busy and I was always on the go from work to school and to the gym. I started using the nutrition meal replacement shakes, which are fast and convenient. I would have 2 shakes a day and a healthy meal and healthy snacks/protein in between meals. I continued to work out 4 days a week doing High Intensity Training and lifting weights to tone up my body. I lost the 30 pounds with Herbalife. (Now, I’m a Herbalife health coach looking to help people on their journey of losing weight and gaining lean muscle.)
What advice would you share with other people who want to lose weight?
My best advice to give to anyone on this journey is to stay consistent and do not give up! Focus on nutrition first. Make sure that you are getting enough protein in your diet and cut down on the sweets and carbs. Find you an accountability partner or a group of people who will help you stay motivated, encourage you to go the gym and help you along the way. Always remember weight loss is 80% of what you eat and 20% of exercising.
