Transformation of the Day: Kierra lost 40 pounds. After seeing her engagement photos, she decided that she wanted to lose weight before her wedding day. She created pact with a good friend who was also getting married. They kept each other accountable by sharing proof of their meals. Having the right mindset was key to her success as well. Check out her story.
My motivation was my wedding day. When my now husband and I got together in 2013, we literally went out all the time. I started my journey in October 2016 after I got engaged and saw the pictures from that day. At the time, I weighed 283 pounds. Basically, I refused to look like a flat blob on my wedding day.
My after photo, on the right, was taken in February 2018 and I weigh 243 pounds at 5’9″. It took me about 4 months to get to that weight.
I started seriously working out and eating clean in March 2017. My friend and I were both getting married in July of that year, so we decided to send each other a record of our meals each day. If we didn’t we had to send $5. It definitely helped me stay on track. Being a former D1 athlete, I had no problem with working out, but it was my eating habits that presented a problem. We did this up until my wedding day on July 16 and I have been maintaining since then.
I worked out twice a week during that time, stuck with my clean eating routine and meal prepped. My cardio consisted of 30 min or more of fasted cardio in the morning and weight training 2 to 3 times a week in the afternoon.
The biggest lessons I learned were to not give up and to understand that it won’t happen overnight. It takes time. I still have 35 pounds to lose and I will reach my goal in the next 4 months.
This process was all mental. I had to mentally be prepared to lose the weight. My advice for others is to just start and stick to it! You have to mentally prepare yourself and have discipline. Also, stop making excuses.
