Transformation of the Day: Khyla lost 39 pounds. As a mother of two, she is proud to be an example and teach her daughters the importance of taking care of themselves mentally, physically, and emotionally. She transformed by working out 5-6 days a week, cut red meat and pork, and eating healthy, whole foods.
Hello Queens, my name is Khyla. I am a 25-year-old and a mother of two. Growing up, I was always active. I played basketball throughout high school. However, going to college not playing any sports changed my body. I picked up what you would call the Freshman 15.
I gave birth in December 2016 to my firstborn and graduated from college in May 2017. Then, after having my second child in August 2018, I hit rock bottom. I hated my body. I was depressed and just a mess overall. You name it, any and everything I ate it and probably had seconds and thirds.
One day, I looked at myself in the mirror and said, “What is it I want to do with my life. I can’t keep doing this to myself. I have two little girls looking up to me.” So from that point on from that question. I stopped making excuses for myself and started to pave the way to start my fitness journey. Through all my trials and tribulation, I am so proud of the woman I am today.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
I would say my motivation would have to be myself. At the end of the day, I am the only person who knows how deep I can fight for what I truly want in life. Me pushing myself has worked in my favor full circle, from my lifestyle change, outlook on life, fitness journey to my children.
My children became acclimated to this lifestyle change that I made very quickly. They love to do home workouts with me. They jump rope, do squats, push-ups, sit-ups, you name it. My four and 2-year-old daughters get it in, just mirroring me. They are my inspiration to keep going every day, even on the rough days. Just showing them how important it is to take care of your body mentally, physically, and emotionally is the most rewarding thing. I am teaching my children as I learn and grow myself.
How did you change your eating habits?
I stopped eating red meat and pork, and I changed my portion sizes. Right now, my nutrition is pretty much seafood, turkey and chicken, green vegetables, complex carbs, and WATER. Fruit, yogurt, almonds, boiled eggs are a few of my favorite snacks.
What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you work out?
I work out 5-6 days a week, focusing on a different muscle group during each training session for about an hour a day, and always finishing with cardio.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
The highest weight I have been was 215 pounds, and that was during my pregnancy. But after having my child, I went down to 198 pounds (2 months postpartum). Starting my fitness journey in Oct 2018, my weight was 192 pounds. Currently, I weigh 153 pounds.
What is your height?
5’7″
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take
I started my weight loss journey in October 2018. Currently, I am still transforming my body. Now that I have lost weight, I am trying to get more defined and toned.
Is weight loss surgery or skin removal surgery part of your journey?
I thought I would have extra skin on my tummy, but it has seemed to go down. I like the little skin that I have now. It is who I am. My biggest blessings gave me that extra skin. I am thankful!
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
I learned that it’s okay to fall sometimes, as long as you pick back up and keep going. Also, your mindset is so important. You have to be able to trust yourself and believe in your capabilities.
Success is not something that just happens. It is something you have to create mentally. Choosing to be positive and having a good attitude will also take you a long way. To radically change your life, you have to change yourself first. Start building your new mindset today. Think about the thoughts that will help you move towards new goals right now.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
Know that success requires some kind of struggle, and good things really do come from those who work hard while being consistent. Try to become the best version of yourself every day. You’re not in competition with anyone but YOURSELF. You are the only person who is living in your body, don’t compare yourself to anyone.
