Shout out to Kenya! She is still going strong.
Kenya lost 53 pounds in approx. 5 months. This Zeta Phi Beta soror had very serious knee pain and couldn’t walk for long stretches of time. She put in the hard work of changing her eating habits and working out regularly. Check out her story.
My motivation to lose weight: I was looking at some of the stories on your Facebook page and really decided that it was time for me to take control and start loving ME again. I was very unhappy with myself. I hated the way I looked when I looked at myself in the mirror. Thank God, I didn’t have any major health problems, but my knees started to get very bad. It got to the point where I could hardly get around. I had to climb stairs on all fours, and I could not walk or stand for long periods of time.
When I wanted to give up, I was inspired by comparing current photos to old photos of myself from before I started losing weight. I was also motivated by compliments from people who noticed the weight loss and the difference in the fit of my clothes. Clothes that were once too tight became too loose.
Eating Habits: My issue was never overeating, because I always recognized the feeling of being full. Instead, I had to learn how to eat smaller meals more frequently, as opposed to just eating one time a day or eating all sorts of bad food just to get full. Now, all I drink is water. I no longer drink soda or juice. I also cut down my alcohol intake to about one drink every other week. More fruits and vegetables can be found in my diet now.
Exercise: At first, I started with the cardio (mainly walking) because that was really all I could do. I have a personal trainer that I work with twice a week. I exercise on my own in between those sessions, doing strength training and cardio. I also try to choose parking spaces that are further away so that I can get more walking in. .
My starting weight was 300 pounds and my current weight is 247 pounds. I am 5’3″ tall. I’ve also gone from a size 24 to a size 18. I started being serious about my weight loss journey in March of 2016, so it’s been about 5 months.
My advice to those who want to lose weight is just do it! Don’t allow anyone to tell you that you can’t. Work at your own pace and set your own goals. If you mess up don’t beat yourself up about it just dust yourself off and keep it moving but most important you have to encourage yourself!

Finally a story that mimics my situation. My knee are in bad shape and knee replacement surgery is highly recommended…only I really don’t won’t to have the surgery. I go to the gym and try my darnest to stay there for at least 30 minutes, but I can barely breath while on the equipment. By the time I leave, I’m thanking God that I survived the gym and pray all the way home that I don’t go into cardiac arrest. Six months ago I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. It’s been a week since I’ve been to the gym…you just inspired me to return tomorrow. Thank you!
