Transformation of the Day: Kendra lost 90 pounds. This mother of three always felt like “the big girl” in school. Over the years, she began to dislike the way she looked, and in 2019 she decided to change that. By showering herself with self-love, switching up her eating habits, and working out with her trainer, she has transformed.
I’m a wife and mother of three, and I’ve always been the “big girl” in school and have always been more than 200 pounds. When I got married in 2013, I weighed 250+ pounds. Then, I had two more babies and got up to 285 lbs in 2016 while delivering my babies. I really hated how I looked until I started to do something about it.
I have overdosed on self-love, and now I weigh 195 pounds! I eat healthy food and work out. I struggled for many days and cried during this journey. I even took a break here and there, but I never gave up because I wanted more for ME! I am a black woman losing weight!
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going?
My motivation came from my kids and from seeing even a little progress on my body. Even when I didn’t feel like working, I know I’m not a quitter, so I pushed myself when (even while crying). I didn’t want to stop because I felt like if I quit THIS, then I’ll quit everything else that’s hard in life.
How did you change your eating habits?
I changed EVERYTHING I ate, from fried food, fast food, sodas, sweets, to bread! No red meat either! I got a personal trainer to help show me what to begin with.
I started making smoothies or boiled eggs with turkey sausage for breakfast. Dinner would be something like stuffed veggie peppers or a turkey burger with no bread. I also ate a lot of salads, green veggies and drank a lot of water.
What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you work out?
In the beginning, I worked out with my personal trainer only twice a week. Then I would work out on my own for another 2 or 3 days a week. I progressed to working out every day, mostly doing cardio with jogging and ab workouts. (Power knees, jumping squats, bear crawls, planks)
When did you start your journey?
I started my journey in October 2019. I reached my goal this year, in February 2021. Despite starting and stopping, I finally reached 190 pounds.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
Weight loss surgery was not part of my journey.
What is your height?
My height is 5’5″.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
My biggest lesson I’ve learned is how to trust the process! Even when you don’t see any results or any progress, you still have to trust the process.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
Do it for YOU! Choose to live better because YOU deserve it.
