What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
I’ve struggled with my weight most of my life. As I got older and started developing minor health issues, I knew I didn’t want to face worse problems because of obesity. I also didn’t want to be limited because of my weight.
So thinking about what my life could be versus what it was at the time keeps me motivated. When I want to give up, I reset. I spend some time fasting, praying, and meditating.
How did you change your eating habits? (What foods did you stop or start eating?
I have tried so many programs. But what’s currently working for me is eating for my blood type most of the time. My blood type requires me to eat a lot of meat & veggies and 4-5 small meals a day. I also control my portions and determine if I’m genuinely still hungry after my serving before getting another.
There are foods that cause inflammation that I will try to limit. However, I have yet to completely give up any foods I love. When I used to deprive myself by sticking to a really strict diet, I would always end up binge eating. So now I allow myself to indulge some.

What is your workout routine?
I currently work out at Effect Fitness. It is a high-intensity gym where I take boot camp classes. The classes are very high-energy, and they play the type of music I like. I also do small group training with JustWork Fit within the gym. The boot camp classes help me burn a lot of calories. In addition, the small group training helps me tone my body.
How often did you work out?
I currently work out 4-5 times a week. I love the workouts, so I actually had to make myself stop working out.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My highest weight was 449 pounds. My current weight is 333 pounds.
What is your height?
I’m 5’11”.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
Since I was about 28 years old, I’ve made some efforts to lose weight but was not consistent. My weight would constantly fluctuate. Finally, in 2020, my weight hit 449 pounds, and I knew I had to make drastic changes. I have worked out consistently at the gym and with my trainer since Jan 2021. I’m still in the process of transforming.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
Yes, to an extent. I had Lap-Band weight loss surgery in August 2008 but had to have it removed two weeks later. There were complications with my surgery that I was unaware of at the time. The band was removed, and I spent six days in ICU. Surgery isn’t an option for me at this time.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
I learned to give myself some grace. I don’t need to deprive myself or be extra hard on myself.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight? Don’t deprive yourself. Just make a plan. Also, find a workout you enjoy and won’t feel like work.
