Keesha lost 11 pounds and 5.7% of her body fat. This proud mom of 7 was dealing with high cholesterol, pre-diabetes and unhealthy habits. She has created a much healthier lifestyle and found a love for fitness. Check out her journey.
I’m a happily married women with 7 children. I’m also a hairstylist. I was a chronic yo-yo dieter with high cholesterol and pre-diabetes. I was totally unhealthy.
In the past, I always lost just enough weight to satisfy myself. I always had a love for fitness, but I was never consistent. I lost weight last year for the 100th time and gained it back within months. Flash forward to November 2017. A lot of people don’t realize that you don’t have to look overweight to be obese. I weighed 147 pounds with 32.9 % body fat. That was it for me. I wasn’t going to be on medicine as I get older. A switch flipped on and I decided to fulfill some unspoken dreams.
As of April 2018, my body fat is down to 27.2 % and I am building muscle. I’m on a fitness journey, so this isn’t a diet. It’s my lifestyle.
How did you change your eating habits?
I didnt use a specific eating plan. I changed what I drink. I mainly drink 1 gallon of water each day, along with coffee or tea. I try to stay away from refined sugar, so I cut out all the cakes, cookies and chocolate. I was over consuming, but now my eating habits are more strict because I think of all the health benefits of nutritious food. I do count macros to make sure I’m eating for my needs as well.
What did your workout routine look like?
I love working out and I’m big into strength training. I love lifting weights and I take a HIIT class twice a week. I workout 5-6 times a week. I’m studying to be a personnel trainer right now. My goal is to do a fitness competition in the future.
What advice would you share with women who want to lose weight?
I would tell women to just commit and do it. Think about the benefits of living a long healthy life. Write out your goals and take it one day at a time. Find someone positive to be accountable to if neccessary. Women should know most times we have to be our own motivaters. I have great family support, but I depend on me to make the change and keep going.
Last but not least, stop dieting and make it a lifestyle. Beyond the weight, please check your body fat. Size doesn’t show health risks associated with high body fat.
