Transformation of the Day: Katisha lost 23 pounds and lots of inches with healthier eating habits and exercise. She is a busy entrepreneur, coach, and military trainer. Her daughter helps her stay motivated and on track.
What was your motivation? My motivation for weight loss was staying in the military and going to events in media and entertainment. Also, one day my doctor told me in my 30s that I would not live a long life with the health issues he foresaw in my future. The camera alone may add a few pounds, but the image and mindset of carrying a few extra pounds did not sit well with me either.
What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up? My inspiration came solely from my daughter, who always wants me to exercise or do stuff to keep me motivated. I had to keep up with her and her goals of going into fashion and photography. Even laying around or telling her I don’t feel well always results in her saying, “Go do something.”
How did you change your eating habits? I would always eat out a lot, but I also had other people prepare my meals. I dated guys who loved to cook (smile).
I went through many phases of using various food plans, like low-carb, eating more vegetables and fewer carbs, etc. I even used multiple meal plans. I went to a nutrition specialist and had a few personal trainers.
What did your workout routine consist of? How often did you work out? In the military, we have upper body and cardio training. I would walk for 30 minutes and do more cardio for another 30 minutes.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight? I started at 213 pounds. That was my highest weight. Currently, I weigh around 190 pounds.
What is your height? I’m 5’6″.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take? I started my journey in 2017.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey? No. (I would have loved to get weight loss surgery to help with reaching my ideal weight loss goal quicker.)
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far? I learned that emotional eating was just an excuse. Not staying active three times a day is an excuse. If I want to watch television, my headphones and the televisions that are on each machine at my gym make it an all-in-one deal.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight? Consistency is key for my weight loss. Stay focused and consistent.
