Kat lost 53 pounds. As a fitness instructor and coach, she realized that she was not on top of her game. She came to a point where she had to address her weight gain and her lack of self care, for her own benefit and to be a healthy example for others. Check out her story.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going when you wanted to give up?
My motivation was the scale. I’d avoided getting on the scale for over a year. When I finally decided to step on the scale it was an eye-opener for me.
I finally took a real look at myself and it was at that time that I realized I was gaining weight and not giving my best effort teaching fitness classes. I teach 10 group fitness classes a week and I needed to be an example for the people who attend my classes. I’m also a Beachbody coach.
How could I talk to others about being healthy and fit when I wasn’t focusing on myself. I have such a passion for wanting to help others, but at some point I forgot about myself. My body had gotten used to my fitness classes, and I really wasn’t contributing enough to my own well being. I needed to do something for me.
So, I practiced what I was preaching. I ran a challenge group with 2 other people. We all followed the same nutrition/fitness program from Beachbody, 80 Day Obsession. The program lasted 80 days. I am currently on my 2nd round.
What did your workout routine look like?
I worked out 6 days a week, focusing on cardio and HIIT and weight training. We also did a booty and ab workout. Every day was a different workout.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My highest weight was 286 pounds. When I started in January 2018, I weighed 276 pounds. Now, I weigh 223 pounds and shrinking. I am 5 feet, 3 inches tall.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
Stop putting so many things/people ahead of your own self care, fitness and wellness. If you want to help other people, start by helping yourself. Be a good example.
What advice do you have for people who want to lose weight?
Find an accountability partner. Figure out what matters to you. Set small goals and celebrate your victories along the way. Don’t just focus on the scale, but keep it in mind.
Your mind is a powerful tool. It is what will see you through your workouts and help you stay on track with your nutrition. So, stay mentally tough through the process.
