Update Dec 2019: Karissa has lost 100 pounds.
Transformation of the Day: Karissa lost 92 pounds after giving birth to her second child. After losing the baby weight with portion control and healthy eating habits, she still wasn’t in the place she wanted to be. She has overcome the weight plateau with exercise. Check out her journey.
After having my second child, I was depressed and struggling with postpartum was not helpful. I had already stopped eating red meat and pork, which helped my diet tremendously. However, I couldn’t get rid of the extra fat and water weight until I started working out two months ago.
I started eating healthy again in April 2019. At this time, I weighed 190 pounds because I lost all the baby weight and water weight. I started my journey in the gym on April 22, 2019. Since then, I lost a total of 27.4 pounds. (All of this is natural. I did not get surgery.)
What was your motivation?
My motivation is my family, my kids, and me. I want to live to make sure I’m healthy for my family at all times. At 255 pounds, I didn’t feel that way.
In the beginning, I kept using the excuse that I just had a baby, and I didn’t need to lose weight because I had time. Then, my grandmother passed away, and all I wanted to do was get back to work and clear my mind. ( I was one month postpartum at the time ).
How did you change your eating habits?
As I said before, I already cut out red meat and pork before April. I had a diet of chicken, turkey, and seafood with veggies — no fried food, no fast food, no soda no juice…none of that. I cut my portions down smaller and ate more vegetables. However, I didn’t get rid of the rice and carbs. I had to figure something out since I couldn’t get pass 190 pounds at this point.
Tell us about your workout routine.
One day, I decided to get up and hit the gym. This was Easter morning. I began with 15 minutes on the treadmill to get me started. Then, I made my way to lifting weights. ( Now I’m at 25 minutes and losing 300+ calories a session ).
My workout routine: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday are my arms and abs days. Tuesday and Thursday are chest, back, and butt days. I workout Monday- Friday for an hour to an hour and a half early in the morning before I go to work. My rest days are Saturday and Sunday. (I also used Keisha Ka’oir’s waist eraser. )
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight
My starting weight before eating healthy and clean was 255 pounds. After cutting down with portion control, drinking more water and eating less junk, I went down to 190 pounds. My current weight is 162.6 pounds.
What is your height?
My height is 5’6″
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
My biggest lesson I learned is to never give up. If something doesn’t work for you, try something else. Just do it. Don’t keep using excuses. You would be amazed at how much your body can change when you just take over. You would be amazed at how much you can develop by eating right and working out. I never knew I was capable of being smaller than a size 12/14 or that I could wear a smaller bra size than 42 DDD.
Your body is a wonder. YOU GOT THIS! Never give up. You can achieve anything you put your mind to.
