Transformation of the Day: Kamillah lost 50 pounds. Throughout the years, her weight fluctuated, and she tried various diets. She fought through depression, anxiety, and a bad break up to change her life. Guidance from her trainer and meal prepping were crucial to her success. Check out her story.
My name is Kamillah. I’m 28 years old, and I’m from New Jersey. I’ve battled with my weight for many years. I was a chunky child, and I really enjoyed eating. I’ve always loved food. Throughout the years, my weight fluctuated. After high school, I started gaining more and more weight, and it made me insecure. I would go on various diets, and I made several attempts to lose weight. I would get a gym membership, stick to it for a couple months, and then quit. Eventually, I just stopped going to the gym altogether. Although I always wanted to change, I didn’t take the necessary steps to do so. I wasn’t mentally ready.
A year ago, I was going through a break-up, and I was also battling depression and anxiety. I didn’t feel good about myself and was in a really dark place. I started praying more, just talking to God and praying for better days. I needed him to help guide and take me out of the darkness.
In September 2018, I saw one of my old coworkers post that she was excepting new clients to train personally and I just decided to go for it. By the grace of God, she accepted me as a client. From then on, my life changed. I work out with my trainer three times a week. I do weight lifting, cardio, and a lot of squats. (I have to make sure the booty is nice, lol.)
In between sessions, I also do at-home workouts. When it’s nice outside, I like to go for a jog in my local park. Exercising became an escape for me. My workout sessions with my trainer were like a therapy session. I noticed that working out really helped me with my anxiety and depression. The more I worked out, the more I started to fall in love with fitness.
I changed my whole lifestyle and started meal prepping weekly. I am a huge fan of meal prep because it saves me so much time and helps me to have more control of my eating habits. Another plus is that it saves me so much money! I meal prep every 3 days.
I cut out fast food, and I drink tons of water. For breakfast, I’ll usually have two boiled eggs and turkey bacon. I’ll also make a parfait with Greek yogurt with fruit and granola. I bring my lunch to work, which can be anything from baked chicken, brown rice, and veggies to zucchini noodle spaghetti. I always try to push myself to make a healthier version of whatever I’m craving. Recently I’ve been craving ice cream, so I started making banana “nice” cream, which is frozen bananas blended with fruit. It’s so good!
It’s been 8 months since I’ve started my weight loss journey and I’m proud to say I’m down 50 pounds! My starting weight was 248 pounds, and I currently weigh 198 pounds. My height is 5’11”. I can’t remember the last time I weighed under 200 pounds. I am no longer a product of my past. I am now optimistic about my future and excited to see where this journey will take me. This is my life now. I refuse to go back to the old me. I’m going to keep moving forward.
If your reading this and feel defeated or your just starting your journey, know that every step you take forward is one step closer to your goals and further from where you started. I know it sounds cliche, but if I can do it you can do it! There’s more to your story, and you have the power to change the narrative. Don’t give up on yourself! Stay consistent and disciplined, and you’re guaranteed to win.

Kamillah has inspired me so much over the time I’ve known her. Watching her on her journey and using fitness as her outlet reminds me to always look forward even on my lowest days. Thank you for sharing your story Kamillah. You remind me to be kind always, never give up, and to be consistent for myself. You’re the reason I find the strength to get out of bed sometimes and work hard, laugh, and enjoy life even when I don’t feel like it.
