Transformation of the Day: Kai lost 132 pounds. She struggled with being overweight most of her life. Becoming a mother inspired her to focus on her health and release the pounds by having VSG surgery.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going when you wanted to give up?
My biggest inspiration was becoming a mother. I wanted to be able to be there for my son.
I’ve struggled with my weight most of my life. I’ve tried all the diets out there at least twice. After I found out that I was five months pregnant and had no idea the stress pregnancy would bring, more weight piled on! Once I became a mother, four months later, trying to lose weight became too hard in my eyes. Soon after that, it was a thing of the past.
Eventually, I felt that if I didn’t get some of the weight off, I wouldn’t be here for my child. After making many other attempts, I made the decision to get Vertical Gastric Sleeve weight loss surgery in April 2018. The surgery causes you to eat small amounts, which assists with weight loss.
How did you change your eating habits? What is your workout routine?
I eat a high protein, low carb diet. My new workout routine, in the mist of this madness, is walking while my son rides his bike. We do this about 2-3 times a week.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 387 pounds, and my current weight is 255 pounds.
What is your height?
5 feet tall
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started my journey in 2017 when I lost 30 pounds on my own. After that, my body seemed to keep that weight off. Later on, I had VSG surgery. I am still on my weight loss journey, and I have better health, strength, and wisdom.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
My biggest lesson is that everyone’s journey is different. I’ve also learned not to compare myself. It’s a confidence booster when you are only working on bettering yourself.
What advice do you have for people who want to lose weight?
Follow the way you feel, and don’t let anyone discourage you. You know what you need to do and you can do it.
