Transformation of the Day: Jowelle lost 72 pounds. By counting calories, practicing portion control, and working out, she has transformed. Her son is her inspiration because she wants to be an active mom and keep up with him as he grows up.
My journey started in July 2020, and I have lost 72 pounds. I did it for my son! I wanted to be able to keep up with him. I am now working out six times a week and eating healthy! BWLW, Thank you for having a page where black women can see the achievement of others! I love it.
What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
The thing that inspired me to keep going when I wanted to give up was my son. I wanted to be able to keep up with him as he gets older and active.
How did you change your eating habits?
I didn’t have to change my eating habits drastically! I count calories and watch my portions.
What did your workout routine consist of?
At first, my workout routine consisted of just going to the gym and walking on the treadmill. When I felt like I could do more, I began jogging/walking. I added more workouts once I felt comfortable. I also used YouTube videos A LOT! I always told myself I would never pay for someone to make me sweat. There are so many free sources out there to help us.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 230 pounds. (I weighed 250 lbs. at one point) My current weight is 158 pounds.
What is your height?
I am 5’3″.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No, I did not have surgery. I lost weight naturally.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is I can do anything! I remember wanting to lose weight and felt like I couldn’t. It’s incredible the things you can do if you put your mind to it and take things one day at a time.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight?
The advice I would give someone who wants to lose weight or who has just started their journey is to take it one day at a time. The weight won’t come off in a month. Be consistent. There are days when you won’t work out or you may eat terribly. Don’t let one day stop you from achieving your goal.
