Transformation of the Day: Jessica lost 168 pounds. She found her motivation after her husband passed away in 2018 and after she had to place her mom in long-term care. She pressed past depression and emotional eating to build a healthy lifestyle.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
At the end of 2018, my husband passed away. Then I had to place my mother in a long-term care facility due to her ALZ. So my motivation is better health. I want to live a long, healthy, and active life.
When I weighed over 350 pounds, I was miserable. I was depressed and felt like I was just existing and not living. Now I keep moving forward because I never want to be in that place again in my life.
How did you change your eating habits?
I hired a fitness coach, and she helped me with my relationship with food. I was an emotional eater. She helped me focus on the feelings and not eat those feelings. My new nutrition goals are based on my macros and what fits in that range.
In the past, I was a “fast foodie” and a sweet treats person. I had to do a complete overhaul of my diet. There was a McDonald’s around the corner from my house. I went there twice daily. Now I very rarely go there, and I even crave fresh fruits and vegetables.

What is your workout routine?
At first, I was very intimidated by the gym, so I would just go walking as my exercise. But now I go to the gym five days per week and do weight training and cardio.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 367 pounds, and my current weight is 199 pounds.
What is your height?
I’m 5’10”.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
My journey started in July 2019. It took me about 14 months to lose the majority of my weight.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson I learned is that weight loss is truly a journey. Consistency is also a key component. No day is perfect, and the scale doesn’t always move in your favor. However, don’t give up!
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
Your diet is the secret to weight loss. Be prepared and have a plan for good food choices daily. The scale isn’t the gospel; it’s a tool. Every day won’t be perfect. You won’t always be motivated. So set small goals for yourself and keep moving forward.
