What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
They say friends are essential to the soul, and my friends embody that in every way. At the beginning of my journey, I told them what I wanted to do, and they came up with challenges to support my weight loss journey.
The first challenge was completing our exercise rings at least three days a week, and that kicked me into gear. My family and friends were so supportive and amazing at holding me accountable.
Later, I became motivated by pushing through the pain and seeing that I CAN DO IT! I did not miss a day of stepping on the scale because it helped me stay focused on my goal. I kept hearing, “Pain is weakness leaving the body.” I pushed and pushed and finally signed up for HITT workouts with my former roommate, Jasmine. We embarked on this journey at The Burn Pit, and BERNARD DID NOT DISAPPOINT! He is all the motivation you will need once you begin. And let’s not forget his wife!
When things got hard for me, they both jumped in, and their words put me right back on my feet! I can’t be more thankful for them. Jasmine was also very helpful, especially when I felt like giving up. She honestly did the hard part and cooked some fantastic meals.
How did you change your eating habits?
I started changing my food choices from fast food and fried foods to cooking at home. Eventually, I began intermittent fasting, which was the ultimate game-changer. My eating window started at 10 am and ended at 7 pm. Of course, you want to eat, but I also used the Keisha Kaoir detox tea to assist with suppressing my appetite. I also loaded myself up with water. My roommate at the time (Jasmine, the other half of @phatqueenfitness) did most of the cooking, and I did not argue. Lol!
What is your workout routine?
My routine began with 2 miles through the neighborhood. I had specific goals to keep me from being burnt out. My goals would fluctuate from lasting at least an hour to finishing at least 4 miles as I progressed. The further I got on my journey to better health, the more I would walk/jog and then run the hills. We would also train with Bernard for an hour at least two days a week.

How often did you work out?
I started by working out every day, and I still do but not intentionally. I’m coming up on a year with my trainer in July. I may have missed a total of 7-8 sessions, but I would be sure to complete my workout rings by dancing, doing 2-4 miles, or cycling.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
I started at 367 pounds, and I now weigh 287 pounds. Yes, I gained some pounds after I hit the 100-down mark (267) a few months ago. I’m fighting to get back there. Returning to work was challenging but meal prepping helped me make the right choices.
What is your height?
I am 5’4″.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I started in January of 2021, and I hit 100 pounds down in October 2021. I’m still transforming.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned so far is once you start, it’s never over. Consistency is hard but not impossible. My trainer said, “Make time for you to focus on you!” That being said, I do NOT miss workouts for anything other than my own personal excuses.
What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
If you want to lose weight, do it for yourself and ONLY YOU!! That discipline you will develop will take you beyond your wildest thoughts. Do NOT get caught up in looking good, but focus on being healthy. Also, never forget that it’s okay to rest if you feel drained.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No, I didn’t have surgery. I’m trying to do this naturally.
