I lost 86 pounds by staying committed to the ketogenic lifestyle and have since written a book and began teaching others how to do the same. My perspective focuses on eliminating barriers using an emotionally intelligent skill set. Bridging the gap between mental health, social environment, and food consumption helped me to stay motivated and achieve great results.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up?
I was motivated to continue my weight loss journey by the presence of my children. I aspire to be present in every capacity, including having the energy to play with my small children. I was also motivated by my support system, who encouraged and acknowledged my progress even when I couldn’t see it myself.
How did you change your eating habits?
I discovered the Keto diet in 2018 and subsequently omitted carbs and sugars from my diet. I consume approximately 15 net carbs per day, which usually come from vegetables.
Tell us about your workout routine.
Working out was challenging due to my work schedule. I pushed myself to work out three times per week, but I did not always achieve that goal.
Starting weight/Current weight
My starting weight was 239 pounds, and I am currently 165 pounds.
What is your height?
I am 5’2″.
When did you start your journey?
I began on March 23, 2018. I reached my plateau of 165 pounds by September 2018 (6 months).
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
I have not had weight loss surgery.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that consistency and perseverance will transport you to your goals. I also learned that there are external factors such as stress, access to healthy foods, and lack of knowledge that also affect our abilities to be successful.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight? My advice to women battling weight loss is to lean into your support network, document your journey, give yourself grace, and have fun! When you choose to lead a healthy lifestyle, it is, in fact, a lifestyle change, not a temporary diet.
