Transformation of the Day: Jazmin lost 158 pounds. Two years ago, she started her tranformation journey, which included moving to a new town for a new job, weight loss surgery, meal prep, skin removal surgery and running in three 10Ks. This young lady learned that if you change your mindset, you can truly change your life. Check out her awesome story.
Two years ago, I moved to Richmond VA. This was a BIG choice for a military brat who never picked a city to live in on my own! It was also the period of time when I made the BIG decision to stop putting my health on hold. I got Vertical Gastric Sleeve on August 9, 2016. In March of 2018, I decided to get 18 pounds of skin and 5 Liters of fat removed from my body.
What was your motivation?
In 2016, I participated in my first ever 10k. It wasn’t the fact that it took me 2 hours to finish that motivated me. It was the pictures taken at the 10k that showed just how big I had become. After that, I decided I never wanted to feel that way ever again. Two weeks prior to the 10k, I went to a weight loss surgery seminar. Those pictures solidified my decision to have VSG.
What foods did you stop or start eating?
I went to a nutritionist per the plan I was given. My eating habits were never bad, just not consistent and eating out was not helping. Living on my own and preparing my own meals got hectic as I worked a new news job and eating surrounds my job. I decided to stop eating out ahead of my plan and prepping all my food. To this day, I meal-prep EVERY week religiously. I limit my eating out to 3 times a month. This helps save money and keeps my waistline in check. I eat low carb, high fat (Keto) and I keep carbs limited to 50 grams a day. Everything in moderation. I currently make sure I’m eating three salads a week. I also encourage my family friends and those who follow my journey on Instagram to do the same.
What did your workout routine look like?
I workout 5-6 times a week at Orangetheory fitness. I have been a member since October 2015. Eventually, I started adding more runs to my routine. I’m training this year for my first half marathon which will be in November. I recently did my third 10K…5 Weeks after my plastic surgery. I hit a PR (personal record), shaving 5 minutes off last years time of 1 hour and 30 minutes.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
In June 2015, I was at my highest weight of 350 pounds. In Aug 2016 before surgery, I weighed 340.4 pounds. In March 2018, before plastic surgery, I weighed 205.6 pounds. Currently, I weigh 192.4 pounds. My height is 5’8″
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned?
My Life Motto: Change your mindset and you can change your life. Once I put my mind to changing my lifestyle, it changed. I have worked my way through school, completing a Masters at 23. I moved to a city without knowing anyone and took a job that I knew if I focused on I could be great at. The more I transitioned to a positive mindset, the more successful I became. I channeled that same energy when it came to my lifestyle change and it continues to be my way of thinking.
My journey began mentally in March 2016 and my journey continues. I can go back to the gym after my plastic surgery on May 8th! I can’t wait to continue to sculpt my body. There is no longer a journey with a destination. This is a lifelong lifestyle change that I have committed to.
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
Do not give up on yourself. God gave you one body and to not take care of it is not honoring him. As a person who has been obese since a child, it took me 26 years to realize my health is priority. You must WANT to succeed more than fail. Do this with your own heart. Do this for yourself and no one else.
