Transformation of the Day: Jasmine lost 64 pounds. As a wife, mother of three, full-time employee, and entrepreneur, she made excuses about how her very hectic schedule kept her from embracing a healthier lifestyle. This April, she found her motivation and began to break ties with her unhealthy habits. She shared with us how she took action.
I started my journey in April of this year. I have lost 50 pounds so far. As an owner of multiple businesses, full-time employee, wife, and mother, I used to make excuses about how my schedule didn’t allow enough time for this or that. However, I realized that if I had time to eat wrong, I could make time to make the right choices. Today, I’m still a work in progress, but I am not where I started.
What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you wanted to give up? My children. As a mother of three, I always try my best to teach my children manners, discipline, and the key essentials of life. I started to realize that kids today are a new breed, and you really have to abide by the fact they want you to practice what you preach. I couldn’t tell them to be disciplined when I couldn’t control what went in my mouth. This was one of my key motivating factors to actually get started. I also follow @latoija on Instagram, who is an absolute inspiration!
When I first started this journey, it was extremely difficult. I’ll be completely honest; I gave up every single day because I’d created so many bad habits. Then I listened to a YouTube by the late Dr. Myles Munroe, and he said something that really stuck out to me. “If you change your mindset, you can do anything.” Cliché, I know, but it was exactly what I needed to hear at the time.
It takes 28 days to break a habit. My journey or success isn’t anyone else’s. It’s mine.
How did you change your eating habits? Since April 2021, I have not had a soda. I used to drink at least three Sun Drops a day, if not more. If my schedule is extremely hectic, I will do some form of intermittent fasting, like having at least one meal a day.
What did your workout routine consist of? How often do you work out? Every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, I go to cycle class with one of the best instructors ever! (Shoutout to Mr. McCluney). He reminds our class consistently that we have to start somewhere, and we are “Tough like that!.” He makes the classes very exciting. On my additional workout days, I try to walk for at least 30 minutes. I try to make sure I do something physical daily.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight? I started at 352 pounds in April 2021. I currently weigh 288 pounds. I hate sharing numbers, haha. However, I am at a place now where I know this is not my permanent state. It’s temporary, and I have to remain consistent to move forward!
What is your height? 5’11”
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far? You can make every excuse in the world not to do something. The question is, “What will you sacrifice in order to start?” I work very hectic hours in addition to my two businesses, and my children are all involved in some extra-curricular activity. I used to make excuse after excuse as to why I couldn’t change my lifestyle. But, truth be told, 30 minutes out of a 24 hour day is nothing. You have to be willing to take the risk to start, and it begins with you.
What advice would you like to share with women who want to lose weight? Start. You can watch other people on social media all day long and end up wishing your life away. I wish I could. I wish my body were like this. I wish I had the willpower he/she has. Guess what. You do! Change your mindset to fit your need!
As I stated earlier, your journey is just that, yours! Take a break from social media and focus on YOU! Trust me, it takes 28 days to break a habit! What sacrifice are you willing to make?
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey? No surgery. I commend those who do, but after a few months of research and prayer, I decided that wasn’t the route for me. From my perspective, I thought it would be something instant to me. Instead, I needed to establish a new mindset focused on putting in the work and seeing the results slowly but surely.
